What happened to that guy? He may have never been a very good OC, but he wasn't always completely incompetent.
Remember, this staff with KragStuds is taking the same playbook and winning. They added a few things and won with most of the same playbook. As I said from the start, we didn't need a major overhaul. :tigereye:
Dad, if not a diffrent playbook then what exactly do you think was the diffrence in this year's team looking sharp instead of confused?
It seems to me that the problem with his O was that once other coaches figured it out, they knew what play was going to be run.
Execution, some coaches will practice a play all week and never use it in a game. At times, you almost knew what play they were gonna run. A DC I know once said that he would take the top 15 run and top 15 pass plays from a team, that OC will go back to them every game. When the clock ticks down, hes gonna throw one of those out there, its his comfort zone. One time LSU Coach Bill Arnsparger was asked, "Coach, why is it, when ya'll go into the I-Formation you run, an when your in the split-backs, you pass." His reply, "Nobody has been able to stop us yet!" Cam Newton did well, with just a few plays, John Curtis runs the same plays from 7th. and 8th. grade on up. You could blindfold the John Curtis QB and he could make the handoffs. It helps to have the players, it also helps to have some great coaches, LSU has both. Watch Les on the sidelines, hes enjoying the game. The coaches are doing the work, hes letting them coach. Right now, this is one of the better staffs I've seen at LSU. Enjoy it folks.
How many times did they run Stamply(The same play) to let him score? If you have the players, you can do this. LSU is returning 4-5(5 if Josh D returns) starters next year on the OL. They will be able to run these plays on most teams.
Crowton liked to change players on every play to get matchups that he wanted. I think rival DC's keyed on the personnel in the game to get jump on the play called. It also caused out time management issues, which disappeared this year. Crowton would also run plays three or four times that went nowhere, trying to set up a misdirection play. Sometimes it worked, like the reverse against Bama, but mostly it wasn't worth the lost yardage of the setup plays.
