I've always wondered if Crowton is free to call his own plays or if he has to run them through Miles first. Probably the latter, given all of the delay of game penalties. Would be a good call in question to ask during the next 'Les Miles Show'.
I think the recommendation is for the series and not any particular play. It goes something like this.. Alright Gary, we're gonna ram it down there throats this drive. I wanna see lots of Charles Scott between the tackles. Right after we are successful running Shep out of the Wild Tiger, we're gonna sit him down and save that play for another game. We don't wanna show too much. We know that one works, and we wanna save it for another game. Let's also try some option to the short side of the field. That always works well in practice. Oh yeah, don't let JJ audible on the field. We can do that from the sideline. I usually like to think it through, so I'll take the occasional delay of game penalty while I try to figure out your play call, instead of running between the tackles. I love me some 2 yards and a splash when its raining. Oh alright, I'll let you throw the ball a couple times so you can be balanced. BTW, balanced to me is 10 passing plays and 50 running plays. That thar's balance. Just saying...
Everyone needs to remember that Crowton is not running his offense. This offense is nothing like anything he ran in his other jobs. This is some kind of a blend between his offense and what Miles wants him to run. He isnt running his LA Tech or Oregon offense here.
He never had the running backs at La Tech or Oregon that he has here. He said that first thing off the plane. THis is the first opportunity he's had to run some I-formation running plays.
