My opinion of Saban now is no different than when he was coaching LSU. I was glad he was our coach and I like the job he was doing, but I never felt that he was as good as the media made him out to be. Like I've mentioned before, we LSU fans, that watched every game each year under Saban, are the only ones that know how much his teams struggled against opponents they should have run off the field. We saw it from the inside, the rest of the country just saw a BCS national title and a couple of SEC titles. Having said that, I still think he's one of the best recruiters around. The man can coach, no doubt, but I've always had doubts as to whether he was one of the best in the country, or just benefited from what was available to him at LSU. Time will only tell.
Even as a Tiger Fan, I can't say that I agree that the tide has 'melted down' this year. Surprised me that they killed Tenn and that they lost to Miss St. Seems like besides that one year (2005?) they have won about six games every year in the last decade. They will probably finish 7 and 5 so I hardly think they have melted down.
Question for you, Terry. Do Alabama fans place more stock in where Rivals.com has them ranked in recruiting, or where Scout.com has them ranked? Rivals has Bama at #3 and Scout has them at #12. Also, is there any truth, in your knowledge, to the rumor that Rivals.com is owned by an Alabama fan?
I'm not Terry...but I can tell you this much. If Scout had Bama at #3, they would like Scout. Rivals has them at #3, so they currently like Rivals. Now, on the topic of meltdown. The Bama fans that I know are NOT in meltdown at all. Most of them said that Bama would win anywhere between 7-9 games. This will be the case, so they are who they thought they were, so to speak. However, I don't think they were counting on being "Croomed" again. I think they were counting Arky, FSU, UGA, UT, LSU and AU as potential losses...hoping to knock off a couple of those...which they did.
I am pretty sure Scout has them at seven, but I could be wrong and I am blocked form their site where I am right now. And I believe Rival's CEO is Shannon Terry, a Bama fan, but he doesn't influence anything as they have a separate recruiting team. The main influence is sales, but it still wouldn't create that much of a difference. I mean, they cant really predict where these players are going to go. But if you are into black helicopters and all one can still believe...
I was looking at them an hour ago, and very well could be wrong, but I wont believe it until I see it!
Nick is far better than average, obviously. But you make a good point in that his stellar reputation is based almost entirely on what he did at LSU with primarily Louisiana recruits, . . . not at Dayton, Michigan State or Miami. It remains to be seen whether or not he can repeat that success at Bama. LSU went on winning without Nick. Nick has not gone on winning without LSU. Not yet, anyway.
Well, I haven't looked at them today, so I very well could be wrong...but I don't believe you either.
OK, now I believe you. Either yesterday or Monday, they had them at 12. But today they're at 7. 7. Alabama 22SEC 28783012712912203.4112. 8. Texas A&M 24Big 12 283600913111212313.297. 9.
