WHile Im sure Loston would make a hell of a LB, I think we are much better off with him at S. He is the ideal S that we need right now. I think if we need help at LB someone like Hatcher would be a much better fit.
The line between college DB and LB is as clearly defined as RS position. If you looked at PP, would you think he is a CB? He looks much more like Coleman than he does Claiborne. Think Eric Berry, Taylor Mayes and Chad Jones. Would it be totally out of the question for those guys to play LB? To completely dismiss a seemingly probable move as "dumb as dirt" is short-sighted.
What do you mean? For reference Loston came in at about 6'2 200lbs and he has the frame to add weight. He will be tried at the LB spot Harry Coleman played this year at 6'2 206 as a senior. Here are the measurements for the other OLBs on the roster: Baker 6'0 220 Prater 6'1 224 Minter 6'1 240 MLB Theriot 6'1 227 Foyil 6'3 230 etc... Also look at 3 other LBs from the same 2009 class: Lamin Barrow 6'2 212 Tahj Jones 6'2 205 Mingo 6'5 209
I remember seeing him coming in around 187lbs. Nevertheless, he's still not listed at 200lbs. At 193lbs, he would have to pack on the pounds.
With Mingos size and weight he'd make a good safety as well... hell his height alone makes him a good CB candidate if he can cover recievers. What's his speed listed at?
193 was his weight from the Spring. So you can assume he is closer to 200 or a little over by now. Almost every prospect is going to gain weight after starting college workouts. Point is the staff would not be trying him there is they didn't think he fit the billing. And most importantly he has the frame to add pounds and keep his speed. Again very similar frame and weight to Coleman who he would be replacing and very similar weight to the LBs who came in during the same class.
