I wouldn't think so but it is possible if it is a blowout. He has a lot to learn in a very short amount of time.

Yeah, I think we are underestimating the tremendous learning curve.

Heck, the seniors have had quite a time learning a new defensive scheme this spring/summer. Loston hasn't seen anything nearly this complicated on the high school level.

For him to come in this late (and it is very late) in the process, means he will be playing special teams for now and for quite some time.

It will be interesting to see if they burn his shirt for what may be only special teams contributions. Of course if he excels on special teams (ala Ryan Baker), then he will play all season long. I still say it's at least 50/50 chance they will not burn the shirt.

As I previously stated fellas.......Loston is a rare athlete at safety and WILL be playing on Sundays in 3 or 4 years. A redshirt year IMO would have been nice, but totally out of the question for a guy of his abilities. He'll be one of those guys that we'll have to enjoy while we have him!

Miles finally mentions the injury and I am surprised he even acknowledged it publically:

Daily Reveille - Football: Craig Loston to make debut as safety on Saturday

I saw that, Miles said he was definitely going to be playing special teams and that he has the speed, the football knowledge and a mean streak.

Miles is confusing on that subject. He said he would play special teams most of the week but yesterday in his press conference he said he might. I think we will see him get in the game this week.

Says tons about his athleticism. We won't see him in coverage I don't think.. but I bet we'll see him on a few blitzes. 2-3 perhaps.

I will be floored if he even gets in 1 play in at safety this Saturday night.

If he does, the kid is truly special and more than what I expected (and I expected a lot).

Yeah. I don't think it'd be a big deal throwing him in there on some blitzes and stuff. In fact.. I think we put young safeties in to blitz quite often. I'm thinking Chad Jones in 2007 saw quite a few chances to lay the wood.

And unless we're in a blowout I don't want him in coverage at all.

Does anyone have a clue where Loston falls on the depth chart.
If he was being red shirted, would we know by now.

Bhelm, you tend to have all the answers....
Let me know something when you can.
Watching him in that Under Armour game made me think pretty highly of this kid.
