Funny you ask -- he only wears it in spring training and at batting practice. Apparently it shows up on some of his baseball cards as well. He's worn it for about 20 years, and MLB reprimanded him THIS YEAR in spring training about it!

It's a charity called the Sunshine Kids, and is for kids with cancer. Seems like a great charity, and Biggio said the kids get so excited when they seem him representing for them.

On another note, this march to a non-record is embarassing -- and entirely irrelevant for his HOF induction. If anything, this futility is going to hurt him.

It's also hurting the Astros. They'd be much better with Loretta in the lineup at 2B.

I understand the loyalty to Biggio, but it's not helping this team.

They keep jerking with the line-up with no discernible difference in production, and much of that is because of Biggio at 2B.

It also sends a helluva message to the team (and fans) that they won't put the best 9 guys on the field. What is the harm in platooning Biggio and letting him play primarily at home, where his production is better??

Some of the local hacks are banging the drum about bringing up minor leaguers to give them a chance, and I think they're absolutely right. It certainly can't hurt, and this team needs more positive energy. The sort of thing their best two hitters right now bring every night (Lee and Pence.)

Now that Biggio has reached 3000 hits, please take note of this, those who doubt he deserves first ballot HOF:

    Hits : 3000
    Doubles: 658
    HR: 286
    SB: 413

He is the ONLY player in MLB history to have 3000+ hits, 600+ doubles, 250+ HRs, and 400+ SBs.

How can he not be first ballot?

B/c he sucked his last 1/3 of his career. Kidding.

    Well...

Biggio reminds me of another guy who was allowed to be an everyday player for several years despite clearly diminishing skills.

The difference being that I like Biggio while I hope the player above goes away and dies. Congrats to Craig!
