I was referring to your first ballot hall of famer opinion.

I almost edited my reply to isolate that aspect of it.

I remember when he was drafted. Good things were expected and he certainly didn't disappoint. He's probably the first HOF caliber player that I closely followed from amateur draft through minors and complete big league career. Outstanding player, even better person. One has to wonder, how much better would his stats be if he had never played catcher? I can't even imagine him behind the plate anymore.

I can think of a lot of players who had that ticket draw appeal that didn't Biggio's numbers. That's for the casual fans, IMO.

biggio has been an all star caliber player his entire career even the last fews years when at home.

In 79 home games last year:

    25 doubles, 15 homers. .298 avg .346 obp .522 slug .868 ops

    66 away games:

    8 doubles, 6 homers. .178 .253 .288 .541 (wow these are horrible)

    2005:

    79 home games: 19 doubles, 19 homers. .291 .350 .540 .890

    76 away games: 21 doubles, 7 homers. .235 .296 .386 .682

dude should not play on the road, period. at least hunter pence is now roaming center field allowing burke/biggio/loretta to fight for at-bats.

not sure how loretta isnt starting on the road. he did lead the sox with hits last year. not a team that was short on hits like this one.

.288 SLG %!!! Forgive the naive question, but is Houston a hitters' park?

Note to islstl: Biggio's numbers are very similar to Robin Yount. Was he a first-ballot guy? If so, Biggio probably gets the nod. Plus, baseball writers love the humble, dirty-uniform (white) players.

Yes, Minute Maid is great for right-handed batters. Left field is about 4 feet behind third, and Biggio parks all of his HRs in the first row.

Yount was a first ballot HOFer.

Yount also had the magic 3000 hits. That's always a first ballot hall entry pass.

Biggio needs less than 40 to get there. Barring injury, that shouldn't be a problem.

Can someone tell me what is that pin that Biggio always wears in his cap??

It's been there for SO long and oddly enough, I've never questioned as to what it was/is.

Good thing MLB isn't uniform control freaks like the NFL. The NFL will fine you if your socks aren't positioned right. :dis:
