I like how the article kinda makes all this the fault of the drafting teams. If I'm an owner and wanna draft a punter at the #1 overall pick, that should be my option and some turd of a wideout should suck it up and play ball. JMHO

 

They can. Just like the Chargers had the rights to sign Eli Manning, who they selected #1 overall. Eli didn't want to play for the Chargers, so the Chargers traded their rights to Eli to the Giants for Rivers (#4 overall pick in the same draft) and three future draft picks (1st Round, 3rd Round, and 5th Round). The Chargers used the 1st Round pick to draft Shawne Merriman (now 3x Pro Bowl), the 3rd Round pick to draft Nate Kaeding (now 1x Pro Bowl), and the 5th Round pick to trade for veteran OL Roman Oben.

 

Oh yeah. I forgot about that.

The thing is with trading his rights if anyone hasnt noticed thats not how their new coach roles!

I would beat its Singletary that is telling the head guys not to give this guy a dime..and just to teach him a lesson they should draft him again next season if he does reeneter the draft!

 

pretty sure Bo Jackson was drafted twice.
think he was picked by Tampa or somebody terrible like that.

According to Auburn baseball coach Hal Baird, Bo was especially miffed that he lost his remaining college baseball eligibility last season when Tampa Bay flew him to Florida on March 25 for a physical. The flight was in violation of SEC rules. Phil Krueger, a Bucs executive, insists that the team checked with the conference to make sure it was O.K. Further, he says it was Jackson who requested that a private plane be sent for him, and it was sent. Whatever the facts, Jackson has said he thinks the Bucs devised some convoluted scheme to drag him away from baseball.

The Jets' long-running pursuit of a high-profile wide receiver could land them in hot water with the NFL.

The 49ers, embroiled in an acrimonious contract dispute with rookie receiver Michael Crabtree, have filed tampering charges against the Jets, sources told the Daily News. The Jets, through a team spokesman, denied the allegations.

Although the specifics aren't known, it's not hard to connect the dots. Crabtree, the 10th overall pick in the draft, is threatening to sit out the season and reenter the draft in 2010. The 49ers may believe the Jets contacted Crabtree's agent, Eugene Parker, to let him know they'd be interested in trading for his rights, or in drafting him in 2010 with a better salary than the 49ers are offering. The NFL's trade deadline is Oct.20, while the 49ers must either sign Crabtree by Nov.19, or surrender his rights, putting him back into the draft pool for 2010.

 

The thing I took from this particularly was that they surrender their rights to him on Nov. 19th. I'd heard that they had the rights pretty much right up until the next draft. Nothing really changes, though. He still won't get drafted Top 10 in the next draft and will have to take even less money, unless you have a team like the Jets who get desperate.
