Bubble that covers Cowboys indoor field collapses | Latest News | WFAA.com IRVING, Texas -- An air-supported practice bubble that covers a practice at the Dallas Cowboys practice facility collapsed during a strong thunderstorm on Saturday. There were no reports of injuries. An ambulance was seen arriving at the scene. Emergency medical technicians were seen entering portions of the bubble that were still standing. Irving fire-rescue officials ordered all reporters and team personnel away from the immediate area.
Yes, there were injuries, 10 or so folks were taken from the scene in ambulances; several of those were members of the coaching staff. Others were treated at the scene, receiving stitches, etc. for cuts.
I live down the street, within site of the building. That was indeed a damn strong wind that came through. The same wind blew my screen door off and into my pool.
They said that two of the injured, DeCamillas being one of them, were in surgery for spine injuries last night. That was during the 10 o'clock news, so I'm hoping that they did well.
Bad news tonight. One of the spinal injuries yesterday resulted in a man being paralyzed from the waist down. He is a scout for the Cowboys.
Of the 70 people there with all the metal crashing down all over the place, none died and of 12 people who got medical treatment, all have been released except for three: --Scouting assistant Rich Behm (spine fracture, permanent paralysis from the waist down) --special teams coach Joe DeCamillis (broken vertebra, but not paralyzed) --assistant athletic trainer Greg Gaither (broken right leg) http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/spt/stories/050409dnspocowlede.2d010fa.html
The feds are investigating Jerry Jones for possible negligence in allowing his people to practice in such an unsafe structure. Assuming the structure was up to code, I talked to a person who works for a company that builds canvas structures such as the one the Cowboys had and he says that are solid, even hurricane-proof. Saturday's practice facility collapse...is now the subject of a federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration investigation, authorities said. http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/spt/stories/050409dnspocowlede.2d010fa.html On a note that has nothing to do with legal negligence, LSU and the Saints have solid, warehouse-looking structures that I assume are much tougher and much more expensive than that structure Jerry Jones built for his team... at least I hope LSU and the Saints have a much safer indoor practice facility than that one Jerry Jones put his people in.
