Suprised nobody posted that earth shattering news about Wade Phillips being named Cowboy head coach. Looks like Jones is about to put that team in the tank again. He wants so bad to prove he can be an exceptional GM type despite the fact he was a miserable failure at that before. What a strange way to put a coaching staff in place but how can you be surprised with such a clown as the owner?
I think he just wanted to put on a bandaid this year and get into the mix for coaches early in the process a year or 2 down the road.
what about this guy's 48-39 record with average talent makes you believe he is a clown? The offense has the talent to function on it's own... They needed to fix the defense, so who better to do that then the best 3-4 guy in the game? I don't think this is the best hire in the history of sports, but they could have done FAR worse.
But you have to admit Jones is back in control. Dude signs up all kind of asst coaches before he hires his head coach. Watch the war room during the draft. That idiot will be controlling things. It should be quite a fun thing to see unfold. It's the Dave Campo years all over again. I agree Phillips was not that bad a hire, but let's all be realistic to see that Jones has all of his power back, something he lacked with the mighty Parcells around.
Jones is the clown, not Phillips. You mis-read. Phillips isnt a bad coach but it was a VERY strange way to hire a pro staff. Jones wants total player control and he thinks he has the football brain to make player decisions. He doesnt and its already been proven. Why he is attempting the same failed formula again is beyond me. Did he all of a sudden get smarter about evaluating talent? I doubt it. This entire situation with the 'boys is a recipe for disaster. Jones driving a wayward ship is laughable. He doesnt have the humility to hire football people and let them do their job.
Living in Dallas this went over like a big "Huh" IE people realize this is Jerry getting "Back involved". I figure Phillips will last maybe two years at best. With TO now and Phillips having the personality of a piece of drift wood that situation is going to explode. Parcells was able to keep him somewhat on a leash. This is the year the TO situation gets nasty in Dallas. The fact I live here, the implosion will be fun to watch.
Can't wait to see how TO is gonna handle Phillips. This soap opera just got a hell of a lot funnier. Couldn't happen to a nicer team.
Phillips isn't a bad coach, but I didn't see a GM hired as part of this process. SO, Cowboys fans can look forward to the roster being destroyed by Jerry Jones. I like Jerry Jones a lot, but NO team in the NFL can operate effectively without a legit personnel guy running the, um, personnel.
