How does Bama put 32 into 25. Heard of counting on having 2 or 3 non qualifiers and a couple grey shirts, but 7? How does that work? Also, what happened to USC this year? Not even a top ten class and ONLY a 3.86 average star rating. Very low for them.
Only a 3.86? I'll take it. Top 10 or not depends on which service you look at. We don't have nearly as many recruits as other schools. At this point we have 18 so since most services evaluate their top 20, it's possible we get 0 for two spots. I don't know for sure though. After so many years of filling the classes with highly ranked skill players, we were in need for both O and D line guys and we got them.........big time.
Searched 3 pages of thread and didn't see anything on it other than a couple comments on the Lawrence thread about something called a Bryant Scholarship where you give a scholarship to kids of ex players, which dosent really make any sense at all. How can it be within NCAA regs to put signees on a separate scholarship that doesn't count towards your 25. If it is then why don't other schools do something simular. We have Alleman on tops but he is a walkon and not a signee. Also how can you count signees to past classes?
From a guy that was on it. He also sucks at life: In other words, it doesn't make a difference to football recruiting. They will fit guys by non qualifiers and greyshirts. And add future room through attrition. Plus some may pay their way for a while, which is like a greyshirt.
I was gonna say... Even if you're on an academic scholarship but then letter in football it still goes to the 85.
so your saying 7 non qualifiers and greyshirts and that signees don't go on a Bryant Scholarship? Thats a lot of greyshirts and non qualifiers.
Plus there are loop holes --medical hardships and such. It really isnt that hard to make it fit. Lots of schools sign over 30 a year.
Bryant Scholarships are like TOPS scholarships. They are not full-ride like football scholarships. Such players will be walk-ons. Getting 3-star players to walk-on is unusual, though. I expect most of their attrition will come from non-qualifiers, grayshirts, JUCO's, and the baseball player that will likely go to MLB. In any case only 25 of these guys are going to be on scholarship in August. What signing 32 means is that when these grayshirts and JUCO's come on board, some Shula recruits may lose scholarships to keep Bama under the 85-limit.
