Could we get into the NCG after all?

    Virginia Tech is an entire slot higher in the computer polls over LSU going into this weekend's play. If we both win, they stay ahead of us in the computer polls, causing a bigger buffer between Ohio State and LSU. We need to get as close as possible to Ohio State in the computer polls in order to have any kind of chance the human voters do the right thing and put LSU ahead of Ohio State. So Virginia Tech losing is much better for LSU.

    And no, I don't hold out hope that the voters would get it right in this scenario anyway. So the entire point is probably rather moot.

    I agree, but only to a point. I did the collier computer rankings this way:
    LSU beats UT
    Va Tech beats BC
    OU beats Mizzou
    WV beats Pitt

    I was quite surprised by the results:
    #1 WV
    #2 LSU
    #3 Va Tech
    #4 Ohio State

    Come one OU!!!!

    Could you also calculate the pre-season possibilities of Appy State beating Michigan, Stanford beating USC and Kansas\BC\Oregon\USF being #2. Either individually or as a group. That 1% has grown this season.

    Yeah that poll does tend to like the SOS more, giving LSU a better position.

    Billingsley would have it as:

    #1 WVU
    #2 Ohio State
    #3 LSU
    #4 Va Tech
    #5 Missouri

    Sagarin:

    #1 WVU
    #2 Va Tech
    #3 LSU
    #4 Missouri
    #5 Ohio State

    Anderson & Hester:

    #1 WVU
    #2 Ohio State
    #3 LSU
    #4 Va Tech
    #5 Missouri

    Massey:

    #1 WVU
    #2 Va Tech
    #3 LSU
    #4 Georgia
    #5 Ohio State

    Peter Wolfe:

    #1 WVU
    #2 Virginia Tech
    #3 Oklahoma
    #4 Missouri
    #5 Ohio State
    #6 LSU

    This would yield:

    1. WVU.............. 1.000
    2. Virginia Tech.... .930
    3. LSU................. .920
    4. Ohio State....... .880

    Damn, I didn't expect these results from first glance. LSU would then have to get "close" to Ohio State in the human polls in order to finish #2 in the BCS.

    So it does appear that Virginia Tech winning does more good for LSU than bad. First, it keeps another top 10 win on the board (very important). Secondly, Va Tech acts as a buffer between LSU and Ohio State, most importantly. Boston College would not provide the same buffer.

    In conclusion, LSU's best chance if WVU wins is for Va Tech to beat Boston College.

    We still have a shot! If either of the top 2 lose this weekend, the whole world will be on pins and needles waiting on the results of the BCS Standings to be released Sunday night.

    We have every reason in the world to want to go out and whip UT!!!

    I'm not coming to work tomorrow! I can barely concentrate on anything today as it is. I'm not sure what time I am leaving tomorrow, but I sure as hell am not coming to work!!
