Seriously, 2005, football Gods and the weather Gods just didn't like us too much. 06 same story, screwed at Auburn, bonehead plays against Florida. 2007 the football Gods show us mercy against Auburn, 5 4th down conversions, the crazy South Carolina play, not getting beat in regulation which lead to the campaign for the National Championship, all the other teams losing to vault us into the BCSNCG. Flynn going out and Perrilloux stepping in. 08 and 09 the football Gods want their payment, and now it seems like the luck is back. Rivals.com College Football - Monday with Mike: LSU's Lucky Les
There may be something to this... I posted on another thread after the game this weekend that this season sort of has a 2007 feel to it so far. Definitely still too early to tell after only 5 games, but who knows? Sometimes better to be lucky than good! :geauxtige
Sorry, but this season feels nothing like 2007 to me. Flynn and Hester were great leaders on the offensive side of the ball.
True, but you've also got to make your own luck. I like Ridley, but do you think he picks up the first four times on fourth and 1 against FU? Does Jarrett Lee make the throw Flynn made at the final gun against Auburn?
Good points. Certainly Lee is no Flynn; however, perhaps there's some hope in that he looked poised and confident on that final drive. The pressure was on, and he coverted two third downs and one fourth down. :geauxtige
True, not nearly the same offensive chemistry as the 2007 team... BUT more importantly, Les is not the same coach as he was in 2007. Nobody seems to talk much about how f-ing conservative we get when in the red zone. I sit and tell my sons what play is coming and unfortunately I'm right about 75% of the time. Where is the coach who shocked Spurrier with the fake field goal attempt, or being aggresive on 4th downs, etc. Part of the excitement and flare of the '07 team was the decisions Miles made.....and in the same regard, we are now struggling for the same reason. We have top 10 talent with bottom 10 football intelligence.
It's obvious too me that Les just trusted those guys, Flynn, Hester, David, Dorsey, Steltz, a whole hell of alot more than he trusts the guys on this team. I guess the point I was trying to make is that we are getting lucky. And yes, you make your own luck, but it's just strange how things either go really wrong, or go terribly right. And noticed I said terribly right. It's just really strange the way things are shaking up right now.
Look, it's pretty simple... when you have the horses, you run the horses. Miles is smarter than you think. If you believe you can make 4th and 1, you run that play. If you don't have confidence in your team to make the 1 yard, you kick it. Miles hasn't had the same calibur offense since 2007. That's why he hasn't taken the same risks. Same thing with the FG kicker. If you believe your kicker has a 50/50 chance at making at 54 yard FG, you go for the points.
We have certainly used used up some of the luck coming our way!!! Lee showed some composure in that last drive of the game. He was rusty. He made some mistakes. He also showed some leadership of the offense. It was also great not to have to look at the pissy face JJ makes after he screws up (which is a bunch). Lee has earned the start at UF.
