A lot of coaches have it in their contract that if they leave for another job before the contract is up they have to pay the negotiated amount. It's usually much lower than the buyout the school has to pay them if they fire them.
If I understand correctly, Les has 4 years left on his contract at $4.3 mill per season ($17.2 mill) plus bonuses. Another school would have to offer Les a substantially better deal than what he has a LSU.
If he's pissed I don't think the contract would necessarily have to be any better as long as he feels the situation is better. But I dont see many teams that would be willing to even match his contract.
Les played it correctly is more of what I was getting at. Built up sentiment and knew Alleva and whoever else didn't have final say.
Correct. And the sympathy from the media and fans played right into his hands. Les has more dumb luck than anyone I've ever seen.
les probably didnt intentionally play anything. but just being himself and staying professional (many other coaches would have talked shit) under immense pressure while knowing you're getting shit-canned paid off big time. It had to be very very unsettling for him knowing the coup was taking place. He let the fans and media speak for him and his anal horseshoe that I thought rusted out, regenerated gold plated with titanium nails.
