I disagree. Small ball is a mind set of getting guys on base, moving them over, and hitting them in. It doesn't have to ba a bunt. A ground ball hit behind the runner is getting the same result. As is a fly ball to right moving a runner from 2nd to 3rd.

    That's what I said.

If you can "Hit 'em in", that's just baseball, it doesn't have to be one or the other.

I figured someone would toss out the hit & run by now.

    Interesting.

Yeah, but I was just pointing out that you don't have to use the bunt to play "small ball".

"Small Ball" is just a name that was made up for real baseball during the power fest that was the 90's. So many teams went with the "couple of bloops and a blast" mentality that when I team played actual baseball, that it stuck out as different, so it developed a nickname.

<--- Would still like to have a few gorillas. Win games with one swing.

HR's are boring. The triple is the most exciting play in baseball.

No drama. The HR is over in like 5 seconds max, and for the most part, leave little doubt half way into it. A triple on the other hand, takes twice as long, is much rarer, and you don't know until the very end if the guy is gonna make it. Even if thrown out at 3rd, usually it a close play, that's sure to get a reaction from the crowd. Any baseball fan who's not on the edge of theri seats when a guy like Jose Reyes is rounding 2nd just as someone with an arm like Ichiro's is launching it just doesn't have a pulse.

I'll give you that one, but since they're less frequent than unicorn sightings, I didn't count them.
