Really? Spurrier has already led the Cocks to victory over Florida? Was that during Zook or was it Meyer's first year? Where did they play at? I can't believe I missed that
What's also being missed in this discussion is Spurrier isn't calling the plays next season. He's given that to his son.
Meyer was coach in 2005 when Spurrier beat the Gators in his 1st year. Here is a 2 part recap:
I was the dumb one who'd picked them to win it last year- preseason. Come to think about it, EVERYTHING I predicted about South Carolina/SS was a complete flop. I ain't touching this one.
You are generally right if you predict they will excite the media for a few weeks and then crash and burn.
You didn't jump on the Mitchell bandwagon and you also said it would all come down to the QB play. On those two points, you were spot on.
Pretty interesting. 2005 was Spurrier's first year with the Cocks and Urban Meyer's first year with the Gators... Florida was ranked preseason #10, and was ranked #12 when they went to unranked South Carolina to play them in Columbia, SC. South Carolina's home win over visiting Florida was the only time that the Cocks have ever beaten the Gators in football since 1939 (and South Carolina and Florida have been annual SEC East rivals since South Carolina joined the SEC in 1992).
USCe and UF was hardly a blip on the radar until Spurrier arrived. UGA and USCe have been rivals for a long, long time. Holtz did a little to bring some excitement to that game but only because of the run the Gators had in the 90's.
