On the topic of him locating great talent, it's obvious the high level at which the DBs play is at USCe is a testament to his terrific coaching ability as well. So imagine what he will capable of doing with stud 4 and 5 star recruits who are begging to be coached up. Chad Jones Craig Loston Janzen Jackson Patrick Peterson Brandon Taylor Jai Eugene Phelon Jones I think LSU just secured the services of Darren Myles with this hire. And we can FINALLY put to rest the Janzen Jackson rumors.
I always read where people say coaches come here, or anywhere else for that matter, because of a NC possibility but its a complete fallacy for asst coaches. They are looking for 2 things...money and advancement opportunities with money being the primary factor for 99% of them. Chances to win NC's are gravy but never a reason an assistant makes a move.
Glenn Guilbeau's first announcement on the breaking Cooper to LSU news gives us another quote from Cooper: BATON ROUGE -- LSU has hired South Carolina secondary coach Ron Cooper to be its new secondary coach, Cooper confirmed to Gannett Louisiana on Monday afternoon. "That's right, but I cannot talk about it right now," Cooper said on his cellular phone. "I'm starting right away. I have to take this call now." http://www.shreveporttimes.com/article/20090105/SPORTS/90105019/1001
The Charleston, SC Post Courier had some interesting info: Cooper knows Tigers coach Les Miles from when Miles was at Michigan and Cooper was at Eastern Michigan. They were neighbors in an Ann Arbor-area subdivision.
I disagree, asst coaches like to win too, losing really wears you down. Also when you coach on a winning team the exposure and opportunities for advancement increase significantly. It may be not be one of the top reasons but it isn't "a complete fallacy".
Find me a coach who's made a lateral move to win championships without a hefty pay raise and you found that 1 in a 100. I've been around these guys too many years and its all about the cha-ching.
