People forget that Urban Meyer basically ran a penal colony over in Gainesville that was overshadowed in the sports media by Jesus 2.0. Doesn't look like that really hurt his career prospects.
Guy on the other board just cut and paste from ArrestNation.com, i did the same thing but added more, mostly from NBC CFT's police blotter Long story short, ArrestNation.com and NBC Sports College Football Talk did pretty much all the work
Les does a better job than most, many don't know this. I was talking about this with a college coach last year. Then this coach tells me, last night one of out players got a DUI.
I doubt many fans in the SEC have forgotten this. And from my vantage, Florida's image remains tarnished.
I read a post yesterday saying Florida set the all-time record for football players arrested in a season during Tebow's Heisman season. If that's true, it's interesting how little press that got when everybody was falling over themselves praising Tebow as a Saint. How big of a Saint could he have been by 1) passionately championing and condoning a team with the all-time record of "convicts" and 2) having such a weak Christian influence over others that his own teammates set the all-time arrest record? That is something i have already started reading up on..
Florida's image will always be tarnished in my eyes just because they are Florida. Under Urban, they were our biggest rivals, and i was trying to do everything i could to tear them down, but my attempts most often fell on deaf ears. As for how "not many SEC fans have forgotten" about all the arrests under Urban, i don't even think many SEC fans even knew, much less cared. I didn't know and I don't remember a single thread on the issue on any of the SEC forums i follow. The only thread i remember that gained a lot of interest was the Brandon Spikes on-the-field eye-gouging incident. Now sure, there were most probably threads i missed. For example, the first article i read yesterday when looking up more about Florida's arrest record pointed out that HBO did a segment on the issue, and i never knew that. What other publicity do you remember them getting?
This was a big topic of discussion when he was at UF. Look up the Fulmer Cup. Most fans use that to bicker back and forth on the subject.
That's actually the first thing i checked when responding to that post and i don't know if this is the right list of Fulmer Cup winners, but i assume it is 2006 Marshall University 15 2007 University of Illinois 24 2008 University of Alabama 28 2009 University of South Florida 18 2010 University of Georgia 20 2011 Auburn University 81 2012 University of Arkansas 68 Then i went and scanned 2011 Fulmer Cup winner Auburn's 2011 arrests in the OP, compared it to Florida, saw that Florida had more in 2011, then remembered the Fulmer Cup doesn't count an arrest if the charges are dropped, and they have a point system i don't know how they come up with, also realized that the list in the OP is just a partial list anyway, then i figured I'll eventually get around to checking the Fulmer Cup annual top ten (i saw links to it in the other thread), and that UF probably ranked high every year
They do have a rules system weighting different types of crimes, but they also make up bonuses as they see fit, and one of the standard bonus points is added any time it's a player from Florida. It's good fun but I would take Fulmer Cup results with a grain of salt in a serious discussion involving Florida thuggery.
