Consequences? If he didn't have any for unabashedly pimping Mich. for the NC last year (because he knew his alma mater could beat them) why would he face any for this? He's a clown with an agenda 90% of the time.
He stays. He goes. I don't have a dog in the fight. It's been mentioned in this thread that he didn't deny still talking with Michigan next week. I only caught a small portion of the news conference and everything I saw was Miles talking about the attention being on today's game. As to the original thought of consequences for Herbstreit? One of his sources was Pat Forde who has heard the same thing. "Sources" being wrong in today's times happens. Somebody, from one of the two respective camps, passed that word along. Taking out frustrations on the messengers is bewildering. It's not like the Revielle did this past week publishing a story with "anonymous sources have said..."
As with all journalism however, in a rush to be "first with the breaking news" they didn't bother to check the sources and verify the information. That is bad journalism at least.
I see that opinion jumping to a conclusion because you don't know where the information came from. It could be either of the Athletic Departments. I see mistakes and mis-information in all forms of media everyday. It's one thing just making something up. It's another thing where you have people who do research and it happens to be denied.
I'm not sure this is all "dead" just yet. Could he have taken the "moral" high ground to protect the team for this game and then change his tune after? Who knows. Perhaps it was a done deal to UM but with the leak he decided to change course? Who knows, I'm sure we never will.
Incorrect. Not every fan said he was leaving, regardless of the speculation. And at any rate, none of us are sports broadcasters with national influence. Herb making this proclamation was incorrect and potentially damaging to our players emotionally. He was wrong, he got caught, and now must suffer the consequences to his reputation.
It's dead. The ONLY way Michigan could not get Miles is $$,$$$,$$$ contract entension. The LSU Big Money Powers came up with a number they thought Skip needed to offer. Miles accepted, game over. If OU pays their coach in the $2m range, Michigan is not going to the $3m range. He here to stay......
