because you see their talent not that they were actually better. but if they can keep longoria and upton together with the young price, shields and kazmir, look out.
right field is their really big problem they need to find an everyday player, as their platoon system was fairly weak and not very good defensively otherwise, they are gonna be around for a while Price needs to get a shot at making the rotation, unless they see him as a closer.
a shot? hes likely going to be their ace. well someones eventually. he has #1 type stuff and will likely be their #3 guy next year 1 year out of college.
number of pitches is overrated if you have good enough stuff. many of your aces only use 2 plus pitches while occasionally mixing in some junk just for a different look. but yes, it will make him more effective. and his stuff is nasty enough as it is. his moneyball is his fastball which has sick motion; unlike ben mcdonald for example. hes got a plus slurve and slider (basically the same pitch). word is they have been working on a changeup which has been pretty good when he doesnt tip it. how lucky are the rays to get the talent they have accrued. you dont see the pirates doing the same thing and theyve sucked worse. gotta give a lot of credit to the rays scouting regardless I suppose.
