At one point they were rotating 19 players. For all the love Miles gets for recruiting, you could argue that his classes over the last 3 years on defense have been littered with busts.
This is an absolute fact. We have had years when we had great defensive depth, but we simply do not have that right now. There have been some busts, but our defensive line and LB recruiting, in general, has not been getting it done. It showed out there last night. But I'm guessing we saw that coming, didn't we? We knew our defensive depth was a problem. We knew our shitty special teams would hurt us badly at some point, and we knew there would be a game when someone would stop our running game. The perfect storm was last night against the team we would least want that to happen to.
Yes, that, too, has been a killer for us. I'm sure it would have been nice to have Kwon Alexander out there last night, for instance.
We discussed these busts on the dl last year when others thought they may just need time. Turns out 3 or 4 were huge misses.
That's true too, Kwon, and Hunter both would have made at least somewhat of a difference, I have to think Kwon wouldn't have let Drake keep getting the edge last night, and more tackles would have been made. But the DT position has been a huge disappointment in the past few years. Godchaux hasn't had as good a season as he did last year. We don't have that disruptive force like we are used to having, the Ego Ferguson, Michael Brockers, Bennie Logan, Glen Dorsey types. We have had a lot of DT busts, I think it's safe to say Gilmore, Herron, Bain (no longer with LSU) Mickey Johnson, Quentin Thomas have all been busts.
