Reading Dandy Don this morning, I was surprised to see this little bit Don transcribed from CLM's radio show: I don't remember the field looking bad nor do I recall any previous comments this year about the condition of the field. Anyone know anything about this? Just curious - I would have assumed that the field would be kept in tip-top condition. Thanks for any input. :geaux:
we played 5 straight home games without a week off. maybe that prevented the grounds crew from some of the maintenance they would normally do.
Didn't they replace the turf at the end of last season? Obviously I can only judge by what I see on the TV screen but it does appear as though large chunks of turf are on the surface in the 4th quarter of just about every game.
From what I heard, they replaced it before last season started. However, there was some sort of fungal 'infection', for lack of a better word. They struggled with it alot last year, maybe it's still an issue. Not sure where I read about it though.
In the last two games, I remember thinking the grass looked dead in certain high traffic spots. It was nothing real conscious, I just made a passing mental comment to myself I thought it would have been greener all over. I can believe Miles comment.
It's pretty bad. Walking across it after the Troy game it looked like a ghetto playground. I'd imagine it was only worse after the Ole Miss game.
It's been pretty bad every year since the second upper deck was added. Less sunlight per day on the field because of it. Looks great for first few games, then starts getting pretty bad as the season nears and end.
I know for a fact that the purple paint they use on the field is almost as effective as roundup. That area is basically painted dirt by the third or fourth game.
They overwatered it (which led to the disease problem mentioned- don't remember exactly what) and also burned it with too much nitrogen as well. It is bad.
