I'm worried about QB and the running game with teams knowing we will rely heavily on running. I'm sorry but nobody will ever get the yards after hit that Hester got. Hester is a lean forward low shoulder runner. Scott runs upright and goes down much easier than Hester. I love to watch Scott run, but he isn't Hester and he needs some holes to get decent yards. I'm not worried about the running game. I think Crowton will mix things up quite a bit that we will be able to run, especially with KW, RM, CS. I really wish KW would improve in his vision. Most importantly I'm worried about the QB. Now I hear you guys saying the CB's and pass coverage isn't very good, so I'm worried about that now. I'm just taking your word for it because I didn't see the UNT game.
.....nah, I actually understand what you're saying, though most outside of the LSU realm will find that incoherent.
Just QB play. I rewatched the game last night. If Hatch can find a way to be more accurate on 25-30 yard post routes (and throw the damned thing OB when he's got noone), then we'll be fine. If not, then we'll be challenged all season long by any defense that can force him to throw past the slant/screen lanes.
And unlike some, I wasn't all that impressed with Jefferson. His time will come, but not any time soon. Likely not this season.
He's averaging 11+ ypc through two games. Even Hester never did that, regardless the competition. Look back at Scott's highlight reel for the past couple of years and you'll see he has a knack for finding the opening for a big gain. We'll be fine.
Not much there to judge from. One three down series. Physically, he's iimpressive. If he's as smart and focused as I'm hearing, he may compete for the job late in the season or next year.
This is KINDA what I was trying to say. His only pass missed the target pretty badly, but that could have been on Toliver (who I hear runs poor routes anyway). I should have said I'm not impressed YET.
Scott doesn't need much of a hole. He squeezes through some tight spaces to make his own hole getting through the line, and once he's through he's a better open field runner than Hester. Hester always fell forward, which we haven't seen with Scott yet, but Scott is a very tough runner. That's a poor assessment. There was nothing wrong with our CBs or pass coverage.
