D-Byrd looked like he was getting really frustrated with the quality of passes coming his way....longing for the day when Flynn was throwing his way. Just an observation
Obviously punting. Also, I question our offenses ability to have big plays. Our line is more than great, but when we face good defenses I am a little worried whether or not Hatch will be able to go vertical and stretch the defense. With that being said I thought the coaches did a great job with the offense today and were pretty aggressive while being conservative, if that makes sense.
This is how I see it as well. Hatch's arm is plenty good enough if he stay's cool in the face of SEC defenses. He can make 25 yard throws with ease and that's enough to keep the "box from getting stacked". To me, the biggest unknown with Hatch is how he'll handle a much tougher defense. Can he take big hits and stay composed? If so, he'll be fine.
I won't rehash much of what has been said here because I agree with everything said to this point. Hatch looked awkward on the option, as well. His pitches were hesitant, and that will not fly in the SEC, either. I hope we get the next two games in (though with Gustav, that's anyone's guess) because our QB's and DB's desperately need some more real game experience. Lee has an arm, but he's all over the place. Hatch can tuck it and run. Crowton is going to have to be very creative this year... Overall, though, we did what needed to be done. We needed to dominate ASU, and we did. There was never a question that we would fall victim to the Michigan curse. KW was extremely disappointing. Scott asserted himself as the true starter, and he may well take the majority of the carries this year--with a strong supporting cast to back him up.
How many are questioning us taking a JUCO punter with so few slots? I'm for sure not. In fact, I think they should hold open tryouts...NOW! Coverage on special teams looked better. Hatch did manage the game well, but no...he can NOT make the long throw...at least he didn't show it today. KW looked terrible. Maybe it takes the lights and a big stage like VT last season to get it out of him...but he looked like something other than a highly touted 5* running back recruited by everyone. I wanna see JJ. Jai didn't look terrible...he has improved, but there is still room for more improvement...and it needs to happen fast. Still don't understand why they won't DECOY with TH. Charles Scott=BEAST. I like watching DByrd run with the ball. I like watching Lafell catch the ball...then get out in open space and stride. Harry Coleman plays mean! They'll have to repaint the goalposts after the first two PATs...but thankfully, just on the inside.:hihi: Stacey, thanks for the invite...and the vittles. It was nice to be inside a HOUSE today! Enjoyed meeting you and the fam!:thumb:
Williams will be back. He's just kind of streak runner right now. When he's good . . . he's very good.
I don't disagree with this. However, I like to see someone who WANTS to be there. Charles Scott acted like he wanted to be there today. KW? Not so much. Honestly, I HOPE he gets another chance to prove it on the field. He likely will in the next two weeks, but he better make the best of it. I didn't really agree with Parso about KW, but after today...I have no other choice but to say he's right...and I hate that.:hihi:
I don't feel real warm and fuzzy at QB..I was most disapointed with Lee, the INT was a BAD one, but maybe he'll get better. It is the first game after all. Keiland looked plum lazy. I was really hoping to see Jefferson. I was most worried about special teams and though not good its better than I expected. On the other hand, Hatch managed the game well, Scott is a BEAST, receivers look great, both lines are full GROWN MEN, and the defense just looks hungry.:tigereye:
I wanted to add except for the couple blown coveraages the Coaches did a good job, AND they have been known to play possum.
