David Blackwell, rivals 3 star from Fort Lauderdale, qb/db just verballed to the Hawkeyes... ...thought I'd share one of his comments with you LSU faithful... This kid was being recruited by Iowa, LSU, Arky, 'Ole Miss, Miami.... a few weeks ago he tore up his ACL and will now miss the remainder of his senior year.... In his comments after making his decision, he said, "When I got hurt, the phone calls and visits stopped. The only two schools who stayed true to their offer were Iowa and LSU." Congrats to your coaches... it will pay off in the long run....
It's always sad when a highly recruited guy has a bad injury and all the big programs who were all over him earlier quickly run away. But that's recruiting for you. Congrats Hawker45, and good luck with the rest of the season.. Wisconsin and Penn St are going to be tough
It's called integrity, keeping your word in the face of adversity. Some got it; some don't. Hope he turns into a star for you.
Thanks for the post Hawker, its always good to hear something good about our program. We had a recruit from New Orleans who was injured last year, during his Sr. year. He had already accepted his scholly. There is some question whether he'll even be able to play football again, as it was a serious back injury. We have honored his scholly. This speaks well of Les Miles, IMO. The man has integrity.
This topic came up last season on the SC forum when Marc Tyler broke his leg prior to LOI. His scholly was honored (he's a likely redshirt this year due to lingering probs with the leg) but nobody could find instances where they were not. Anyone know of an instance where a player was dropped completely?
That's a great story and I've respected the coaches at Iowa--especially when your head coach has bypassed all those chances to join the pro ranks.
I don't have any examples of people who were dropped due to injury after giving their commit. It is VERY common, however, that teams drop a guy who hasn't committed. If you're not committed and you sustain a serious injury, most teams wash their hands of you. Can't say I blame them personally, depending on how bad the injury is. If a guy is a marginal recruit and, say, tears his ACL, that should be pretty much it for the recruitment process. Now, if he's a blue chip guy, and tears his ACL, maybe you don't back off. It's a risk-reward analysis. Is the guy good enough now to take a chance that he might not make it all the way back? But if he's already committed, I think most if not all teams would stick with a guy through injuries.
Agreed, but I hope he has a baaaad case of the flu (from which he fully recovers) if we play the Hawkeyes while he is there. And no, I haven't yet recovered from that loss.
