Please, Please, please...do not infer any motive other than it's something that crossed my mind: Rohan Davey - Matt Mauck -JaMarcus Russell - Matt Flynn - Ryan Perrilloux -?????
Jarrett Lee will be 3 years into the Crowton system by the time Perrilloux leaves Jordon Jefferson will be 2 years into the system We supposedly have a stud QB high on our radar for the 09 class Jefferson appears to be a better option as a dual threat QB (4.6 speed vs 4.7 speed for Lee). Not sure if that would be enough of a difference to give Jefferson the inside track to the starting position. 2 years until then.....I don't think we have much of a clue at this point. I put my bet on Jarrett Lee at this point. Higher upside than Matt Flynn.
Damn! Right off the bat. I was thinking it's strange that we've had these uber-talented QBs who led some of our best teams ever, yet the NC opportunities came around when we had what was perceived to be a lesser quality QB. I think Davey and Russell were victims of circumstance in that things just did not fall into place for them to get a shot at the crystal. In Rohan's Sugar Bowl season, LSU was unquestionably playing better than anyone else in the nation, yet, early losses kept us out of contention (are you listening, UGA?). In 2003 a remarkable series of losses by contenders from November on dropped us into the NC game with Mauck who was considered "smart" but not a real talent like Davey was. Last year, JR led us to one of our best seasons ever, but the officiating debacle at Auburn proably cost us our shot. At the end of last year, LSU was clearly playing the best ball of anyone (again, UGA, pay attention). Now comes this season with a QB that many perceived to be "lacking", and a team that was struggling at the end of the year, yet an amazing set of circumstances dropped the NC into our lap. Next year we have the long awaited debut of RP who is widely considered to be as talented as Rohan and JR, yet graduation losses and a tough SEC schedule may deny him his shot, despite leading a very good team. If Ryan has a great year he'll likely go pro turning a Championship caliber squad over to...Whom? THAT"s what I'm saying.
