Do you realize that our team, has so many interchangeable parts, that we really don't have any superstars. Especially on offense (of course Dorsey on Defense). We can hurt you in so amny ways. Has there ever been a time that the #1 team in the country had no Hesiman trophy candidates. I know we have a few games left, but its amazing how we really have an awesome team, just full of talent form top to bottom. No one person stands out. For real though, How long has it been since a #1 team didn't have a Heisman Candidate? We are stacked for the present and future. :LSU231:
Sharing PT as a RB, QB, or other skill positions, does "Bring down" individual stats. It also tells me a couple of things about the coaches/players- they're about winning games/Championships and not about highlighting individual players. I think it speaks a lot to the team chemistry we have and also to the Head Coach. It's also a problem USC is having (So I've read on their forum) that the players lack chemistry/leadership. Kind of odd to me cause PC has been called a "Players' coach" too, but whatever is going on, I've felt for a while that SO many 5* players who were "The man" on their high school team, might be contributing to the situation cause they obviously can't all play at the same time when you have nine 5* running backs.
WOW Interesting question, so I decided to look into it. I had to go back to 1998 to find the last time. 1999 qualifies too, as Peter Warrick was considered a strong contender, but dropped from the list of finalists after the Dillard's scandal. Yea, it's been THAT long ago. Pretty interesting point, Kirby.
I was listening to a sports talk show, and the question was "Which matchup would be best for the BCSNCG". Oregon came up vs. LSU, for obvious reasons...Les Miles remark about the Pac 10, west coast team with a high powered offense, etc. But one thing that caught my ear was when the guy said Oregon would probably have the Heisman winner at QB, along with A RB that would likely be in the NFL. I laughed out loud, thinking of how we have at least 3 future NFL RB's...if not 4. Then I began to consider that...if we would play just one...we would likely have a Heisman winner on our team. It doesn't bother me that we don't, mind you. I personally could care less about the Heisman, and would rather see us succeed as a team. Just thought it was funny how we don't get any credit for our running game, when all we do is rack up yardage every single game on the ground. I guess it's hard to see when it's spread out amongst 4 or 5 guys.
Is having a Heisman candidate/winner on a team all it's really cracked up to be? It seemed to backfire in 2005 for USC, since Reggie was nearly completely shut down in the BCSCG. Dennis Dixon is pretty banged up right now, and his replacement is nothing to write home about. If he goes down again, so does Oregon's high-powered offense. Ditto with Tim Tebow. I'll take a balanced offense performing at a high level any day over a lone superstar.
Don't forget Troy Smith last year, and NEVER forget Jason White in '03. Two more classic examples of what a joke the Heisman is.:thumb:
This also tells me we can really recruit well to have so much depth at so many positions!!!! :geauxtige :geauxtige :geauxtige :geauxtige
LSU has a Heisman candidate - check out the poll at the bottom of this page for proof: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/ncaa/
Without checking the link, I am sure you're talking about Dorsey. Anywho, Dorsey isn't going to win it...and I was going with the thread when talking about the Heisman...entering it into the conversation to prove that our BALANCE on offense is more important than the Heisman. I think it would be awesome if Dorsey were to actually win it though. But some things would have to happen to several people, like Tebow, Dixon, McFadden, et al...and none of them are things I would wish on anyone.:thumb:
Yeah, I know he's not going to win it. It sure has been nice to have various national "talking heads" bring his name into the discussion, however!
