Man, I hate when that happens. Are you not the same Jack Sparrow that had the gators chomping and longhorns goring their way to greatness against possibly the most decorated Tide team in Alabama history................and that just a few months ago?
Did the Bear really coach up the players or did the players make the coach??? Man, just think how great we'd be talking about Cholly Mac if Forrest Gump was from Donaldsonville instead of Bama. I'm the 1st to admit, yes I did, but as I said even the greatest coaches are just 1 play, 1 injury, or just 1 bad call away from having the wheels fall off. Luckily for Bama/Saban they had half of their close games aided by great coaches/teams falling victim to these circumstances. The whole of college football realizes this with the exception of Bama fan and ESPN. A great accomplishment none the less, but proof that a MNC is every bit about luck as much as it is about great coaching. A fact that LSU fans are well aware of. You should heed this fact and realize a bit of humbleness goes a lot further than tauting the 2009-2010 Tide/Saban as 1 of the greatest in Bama history.
And may I humbly add, 6 SEC teams bearing down on Bama so hard they feel compelled to take their bye week anywhere it allows them two weeks to prepare for the Tide. I enjoy your post, for the sheer fact you like the philosophical overview, much as I do myself. But honestly, if you spend some time over in Tideville the fans expectation isn't about every year absolute dominance, it's lets compete hard and have a chance to win every game. Bama can do that. If Saban leaves, he leaves the best football situation he's ever been in, and he is fully aware of that. If he goes, much like LSU, talent wise, the cupboards will be well stocked. The coaching catastrophe Bama went through, the past decade, was primary because of some of the stiffest probation penalties ever handed out. Not many great coaches care for that, and they didn't. That will not be the case this time around, IF and eventually when Saban leaves. I didn't say greatest Bama team ever, "most decorated," It was: Most AP All-Americans off one team, Butkus winner, Heisman winner, etc. etc. That's all. It will take time to see where 2009 settles as a team.
It's the SEC's way of correcting certain injustices from last season. Take your medicine and live with it. Don't worry young Tusk it isn't some conspiracy against you. Also, since you have the greatest coach, the greatest players, the greatest program it really shouldn't be a factor in how well you guys do. You are sooo much greater than everyone else, opponents having a week off shouldn't be a problem. BTW I think it is only fitting that LSU and Bama both choose their respective bye weeks prior to our game.
Boo hoo. The same thing happens to whoever is on top. Wear the bulls eye with pride or get to the back of the line. What else can we do to balance the scales when Alabama goes weeks at a time without a holding penalty and replay officials are on the university payroll? The absolutely blatant corruption that we saw last season not withstanding, of course teams are gonna be gunning for 'Bama. Them's the breaks when you are on top in the SEC. Well, he's done it before.
Saban will somehow relate the 3 losses to the Haiti earthquake, the BP oil spill, and the collapse of the auto industry as examples of similar catastrophes.
Don't see where a "built in excuse" would necessarily make me feel any better if we lose. Hasn't done much for everyone over here. I don't think that facing 6 straight SEC teams with two weeks to prepare is going to cost us the big dance. This year I think any one loss SEC team that makes it out of Atlanta is going to the NC game on SEC rep alone. So I'm going to go ahead and "pencil" Bama in until further notice. If the defense comes along and we can get some breaks I might put it down in ink.
