First as far as refusing to blow...someone pointed out the new law in effect today. You refuse you lose your license for 1 year. Back on topic...I'm not saying he should be thown in jail and forgotten, we all make mistakes, but you make the mistake you have to suffer the consequences. Ther are no excuses. DUI laws in Louisiana are getting stiffer every year and for good reason. If, in him brief lack of judgement, had killed someone what would your opinion be in his defense? There is none...just because no one was hurt doesn't make it any less wrong.
the same argument could be made for talking on a cell or putting on makeup or arguing with your spouse in the car. happens all the time but you dont see bitches against makeup (BAM) or dads against music (DAM) protesting. why not go around telling people just because they didnt kill someone when applying makeup or listening to their radio they are just as guilty. next we can outlaw talking in vehicles and chewing gum and maybe sneezing. my point is, if some drunk kills or injures another person they should be punished to the fullest extent. if the laws need to be stiffer, fine. Im all for it. but all this preventative stuff is a load of crap. some people can talk on a cell and listen to the radio just fine. I shouldnt be told I cant do something until i infringe upon others. my car is my private property. the fact I have to wear a seat belt to protect me from me is another ridiculous matter for another day.
i was hoping my point was much clearer than this. if i dont want to take medicine the doctor prescribes or not look both ways before crossing the street or not wear my seatbelt, I dont want the government controlling that personal freedom. they have no business doing so. yet we get programmed into slowly losing freedom of choice here and there without considering the consequences, before its deteriorated to the point of no return. we arent yet at that threshold but we are quickly approaching it.
My biggest concern. We definitely need laws, but at this rate one day .02 will be illegal too. Is that fair and reasonable?
One beer or one glass of wine won't get you a D.U.I.... Unless you're under 21. .08 is a long way off from just a beer or two. Or a glass of wine (truly depending on the size of the thermos you drink it from, though)
As long as no one was hurt, hopefully it will be just a lesson learned. 1st offense D.U.I. is kinda just a finacially slap on the wrist. Most of us have driven drunk or were with someone who has, or has let someone do it. We aren't in a position to judge, but that doesn't mean that it shouldn't be against the law... It's still kinda serious
big difference in not taking medicine or wearing a seat belt which only harms YOU and driving under the influence which can potentially kill innocent people who have the right to travel too. and there are states with cell phone laws, these are getting stiffer all the time. Not sure about make up, I dont see alot of the make up thing around indy but I do see alot of cell phone/text messaging and it is very dangerous. that's been proven, smith system defensive driving has stats that prove cell phone use puts you at greater risk, whoever you are. Everyone thinks they drive better than someone else while drunk..... studies have shown that these people were humbled when subjected to reaction time studies. Those people that claim to "hold" their liquor can't they are just rationalizing breaking the law. the truth is no one can "hold" their liquor, you can do this, buy a practice tree like they use for racing, testing reaction time, then try using it after 2 beers. it will surprise you how you are effected. Cell phones don't impair drivers but everyone thinks they can be safer than the next guy while using his phone. One smith system survey listed that 80% of people asked if they thought "other" drivers were less safe while using a cell phone answered YES. While 60% of the same people asked thought they were un effected by cell phone use. YOu see the irony here? you cant have it both ways..... You may THINK you are aware of all your surroundings but you simply just are not. However, the guy in the next lane definately isnt. The company I work for has a policy to pull over to call or text. Bumper sticker I saw other day, said Get off your cell phone you're not in a phone booth! the guy driving was talking on his phone.... always the other guy.. lol
Best bumper sticker I saw was (in small script) "Honk if you love Jesus"...with a fish symbol and everything. On the causeway, with my wife driving-in the left lane as usual- a car came up behind us. She pulled over to let the guy pass. he passes and she noticed the cute writing on the bumper sticker, but couldn't read it so she pulls behind the guy and gets close enough to read what it says...being a fairly devout Christian, she tries to set a good example for the kids by saying "Look kids, it says to honk if you love Jesus"...and begins to honk several times. The guy looks in his rear view mirror, sees some crazy lady tailgating him, blowing the horn and you guessed it..... Flips us all off and mouths the words "F U"!!!:hihi:. I just about peed on myself laughing !! You remember that tirk?.
