everyone makes mistakes, you live and you learn. I am not going to be disappointed in someone else for making choices, even if they are poor. I hope Colt knows that he made a mistake and is able to move on now. No one was hurt luckily, and i am sure Colt realizes this.

I NEVER said anything that would indicate I was trying to PRETEND a dwi isn't that bad. And by the way,,,,,EVERYONE I know hasn't driven drunk, of course I haven't asked everyone I know either. I can only assume you just meant to have the last word, but,,,,,,,that's my job. :)

That's all fine and dandy, but as posted above, the laws have changed just because of that.

Also, your attorney friend will also attest that not submitting to a test doesn't do you any good if they have you on video and you look even the slightest bit tipsy.

With regards to Colt, I hate to see this. Hopefully, he's learned his lesson from this and it will be the last we hear of it. I'm glad to see nobody was injured or killed as a result of his actions.

This stuff happens to ignorant people who know the law and proceed to break it. Not referring to you or anyone, but ignorance on Colt's part is no reason to defend it. He broke the law, potentially endangered innocent people's lives and should be punished accordingly, LSU player or not. The law isn't dependent on whether he hurt anyone, although there would be harsher consequences if he did...unless you're Donte Stallworth, but anyways, yes it is common in Louisiana...that's not a good thing. Again, if you know the law and its consequences and still proceed to break it, harsh consequences should follow because it affects everyone.

no one should be pleased with colt's actions and i don't think anyone is. i perhaps was trying to make light of a situation that some apparently feel very strongly about.

    my bad.

at some point in my life, i've also gone over the speed limit, driven while extremely tired, talked on a cell phone and texted while driving. do i make a regular practice of all these things? no. but myself and others have done it. and i wouldn't exactly lump it together with running/financing a dog fighting ring.

we are all lucky when bad decisions made don't affect us or others adversely.

colt is lucky, things could've been worse.

hopefully colt learned his lesson. i was lucky enough long ago to learn that i did not want a DWI (after seeing many friends getting them) and made the decision to not put myself in that situation again.

The attitude of some people on this thread is the reason my car insurance went down 40% when I moved to Texas. Louisana people just don't seem to think drunk driving is a big deal, which is why Louisiana is one of the highest per capita in DWI related injury and as a result pays some of the highest car insurance premiums in the nation.

I'm sure that the history of poor insurance regulation in this state and the fact that until recently, the last three insurance commissioners had to go to jail for absolute corruption regarding kickbacks, and the fact that non drinking Louisiana drivers have so many accidents because they are putting on make-up, reading the paper, talking on cell phones, texting, driving around at extremely high rates of speed on interstates, allowing young teenagers to drive, etc. has nothing to do with it at all.

I think that Louisiana has the best drinking drivers in the nation because both drinking and driving after drinking are practiced so much more here that we make the drivers in other states look like amateurs.

Seriously though, there's so many other forms of careless driving going on out there that drinking and driving takes ALL the rap for. I think four foot tall soccer moms in suburbans who drive tanks with one hand so that they make sure they kill others in a wreck who think they own the road while yakking on a cell phone a far bigger menace than a forty year old man who comes out of a bar after having three beers in an hour and drives home.

Don't swallow the propaganda put out by MADD that the slightest amount of alcohol in your system is more dangerous than all the bad driving habbits and attitudes their own members indulge in. They just don't keep statistics on bad driving caused by all the above mentioned things.

Once again, if MADD was interested in saving lives, they'd be lobbying for enforcement of the driving while texting regulations or for laws that prohibit driving while sleepy....but they don't...they're a one issue only group.

Don't you think he knows what he has done is wrong? This just shows what people think is more important. It didn't even say he was driving just said suspicion of DUI and yet it was in bold print in the paper and people are all over his fricking grits for it. But yet a few wack jobs have 4,5,6 DUI's and nothing is said about that.. Learn whats important and realize that he is human and respect his privacy a little bit. If we all put this much effort into the crime rate and child molestation cases around the city they might not be so high. Saintslogo

Blowing into a balloon and testing .08 or more gives the police conclusive evidence against you that you have violated the law. A lot of us who may be over the .08 limit are capable of acting rational and sober when the adrenaline kicks in from the experience of being pulled over by a cop. testing .08 or above will automatically convict you. If you are over the limit but can hold your liquor there is a good chance that you will be able to confront th situation with a calm and rational demeanor that no video would prove that you are over the limit.

I don't know if its ever been challenged in the highest courts but accordng to the Constitution of the USA we have a right to remain silent . I would love to see somebody challenge this because I believe that a punitive punishment for excersizing your right to not provide evidence against yourself is unconstitutional.

As bad as losing you license for 6 months or a year would be for refusing to blow into the balloon, ask yourself which is is worse? Losing you license for 6 months or a year with no DWI conviction or being convicted of a DWI and still losing your license
