I'd say there have been three distinctly different eras since I've started paying attention to football in the late 60's. I consider the current era to have started with the BCS. Will a new one start with the end of the BCS? It won't happen automatically and we may not realize enough of a change to recognize it for a couple of decades.

I think a new era will be starting yes. Not just because the BCS is ending but you also have change in rules for safety, the spread offense is gaining a lot of momentum etc.

    We'll start with 1967?

You say you see three "distinctly different eras" with the last one starting in 1998—first BCSCG.

A few questions come to mind.

One, if you see the third starting in 1998 where/when is the first era ending? What changed so dramatically in the game to signify a change?

Another question that's somewhat related to the first one is why an era change with the BCS?

I don't see you talking about era's but about something relating to championships. Now we're back to question one about the first era of yours ending.

    Era defining moments?

Some say beginning of AP poll. But, you can make a valid argument that changed with the use of the plastic helmet within its first quarter of a century.
    The platoon system.
    The forward pass.
    Scholarship reductions.

Do you not see college football changing? I think you'll have changes in scheduling (less patsies and more ranked teams), among the others I mentioned there.

    #13/#14 Notre Dame loses

the vaulted Texas D got run over for a whopping 679 yards (550 rushing). BYU almost had two backs run for 200...Hill had 259 and Williams had 182

vs Washington State, the vaulted USC QBs were only able to muster 54 passing yards. here's how the USC offense did:

Lord knows that UT could pretty much get any coach they want with their rich boosters, will be interesting to hear who they go after. But I'm pretty sure who they inquire about first and it won't be Miles.

Just a suggestion. And I normally wouldn't do that, but I care.
