Let's look at Kenny Hilliard for a sec, how many kids does this guy have? And La'El Collins. Both could have easily gone after money, but they stuck around and are getting their degree when it's offered as a barter for them a. Playing football b. following the rules (athletically, socially, academically). Neither of these guys will have to pay back a cent. They won't be in debt for loans well into their 40's. Isn't that worth something? Not to mention a place to live (free) food (free) for as long as they are on full scholarship. Speaking of the academic part did anyone see that article about the UNC athlete's paper that got an A-? Something tells me North Carolina isn't the only school that does this, so the academic part is extremely questionable. What's going to happen when the little sisters of the poor can't afford all of this? Football will shut down for them, now you have about 50 college football teams (just guessing that number) But I guess that makes it easier for a real playoff system.
I'm sure we still pay in some way or another...the athletes deserve it. After graduation payments and jobs....deferred income like the professional players with their contracts.
I think the university faculty should probably unionize first...in the face of all the cuts to higher education.
Faculty have been less the target of cuts than Administration. But since Admins make the decisions...
