he mentioned which way it is trending -- and it certainly isnt in a good direction. they have the large markets locked up so it will always bottom out at a consistent level, but the rest of the country is moving on and people younger than 40 just dont care about baseball as much as they used to.

in 2 of the last 3 years, the NFL has dropped in total attendance compared to the year before.

does that mean the NFL is trending down?

Not sure I understand your point, unless you are contradicting your previous statement.

my point is that none of these leagues can keep breaking attendance records every year.

but the get portrayed differently by the media

MLB has seen a slight drop in attendance 2 of the last 3 years = Trending the wrong direction

NFL has seen a slight drop in attendance 2 of last 3 years = NFL holding strong despite recession

MLB gets a 7.5 tv rating in US for all star game = baseball is on it's way down

NFL gets a 7.1 tv rating in US for pro bowl = football is still king

That 7.1 is up from what it was prior to the pre-Super Bowl version of the Pro Bowl, too.

14 MLB clubs average 30,000 per game attendance.

Only 4 clubs in the bigs average less than 20,000.

Sure, the NFL has far more sellouts (because they play one time a week). But baseball is in no way, shape or form, in the tanks.

We wouldn't see teams like the Rangers trading for Cliff Lee if it were.

oh i agree and attendance doesnt say too much about longterm growth/decline of a sport.

the main problem is hardcore baseball fans are old and dying, and younger people dont care as much.
