the collegiate baseball poll was mentioned in another thread, but here are the polls for march 8, and lsu's standing.... baseball america - lsu #2, with uva still at #1. i am puzzled how the cavs are still number 1 after an upset loss and now being 9-2. i mean, i know they have played top 25 teams and we havent, but still...... it will be interesting to see what bba has to say about that in their online chat this afternoon. i have no doubt it will be questioned. BaseballAmerica.com: College: Top 25 Rankings: College Top 25: March 8 ********************* in the collegiate baseball poll, lsu is #1 (uva is #4.) NCAA DIV I POLL - Current - Collegiate Baseball Newspaper ********************* as of now, the usa today/espn poll is not out. edit to add usa today/espn poll. as expected, lsu is #1 where they were last week in this poll. uva is #4 dropping from #2 last week. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/baseball/usatpoll.htm
Well, here's their reasoning. Can't say I agree since they lost to Wright State, weekend or not. Also, LSU should get props for being undefeated without their ace.
all of that plus that pepperdine club is damn good. bywater is going to win a LOT of games for them. perhaps LSU has played a lot of "nobodies," but those "nobodies" have competed extremely well! it doesn't matter who LSU plays, every opponent is going to be competing at a higher level. the college baseball guys know that LSU is a team (traditionally) that starts off a bit slow, if this team gets better as the season progresses, it doesn't matter there we're ranked... because i don't see them losing many games. i think we'll be in the 50-win-column this season. that's all the prediction i'm going to make.
yeah and that was the generosity of CPM. he wanted to get both teams to BR and only had one weekend to do it. other coaches may have just said "sorry Brown..." but it was their first games of the season, and i'm sure it really helped out their club to face two solid teams in LSU and Pepperdine.
I liked the format for this past weekend. I hope we continue to schedule this type of series early in the season. I still miss the old Winn Dixie Classic. This format gives us an extra team to see and also has more of a NCAA regional atmosphere. CPM...:thumb: Also...LSU sent out an invite to purchase a 1-year parking pass (football) at the old Alex Box site. It's a great location but still feels wrong to park on such sacred ground.
A friend of mine and I were talking about that very subject this past weekend. A 3-day series with the Tigers, Tulane and ULL hosting 3 from another state at Zephyr would be sweet!
Virginia beat William & Mary 12-6 on Wednesday. They play a series at Florida State this weekend. The winner of that series will be #1 or #2 next week. Arizona State beat Grand Canyon 4-2 and will face Auburn for a weekend series. Texas beat Texas State 4-3 on Tuesday. Only eight more days until SEC baseball begins! :tigbas:
