You ever heard of Mogadishu? Wow, this statement is incredibly unaware.

Everyone is armed with automatic weapons in the Mog and they run TOWARD gunfire when it erupts while hopped up on a local drug called cot. I've lived in New Orleans my entire life and obviously you know what is and isn't safe and you have to be on your guard but I don't see mass murders everyday by rival warlords/gangs which you'll find in MANY places around the world.

By the way, if you listen Cowherd is talking about the 32 NFL cities.. New Orleans isn't top 15 of the 32 NFL cities in hotels? Weather during January and February when the Pro Bowl is played? Are you kidding me?

The airport is lousy, but last I checked no one visits a place for the airport.

I'm pretty sure NYC and Chicago and Atlanta have places locals would tell you "don't go [here]."

If you have a place as famous and tourist-heavy as the French Quarter, the Las Vegas Strip, or Time Square you're going to get everyone and anyone visiting in all sorts of altered states of mind hence needing to be careful.

Much of the crime in New Orleans happens in the poor urban areas. It's a sad cycle propagated by the socio-economic structure of the city and to a grander scope the model of the country. There's a select few haves and a whole lot of have nots in America.

Murder capital of the world my ass. When was the last time 49 headless bodies were dumped on the highway in NOLA? When was the last time they found mass unmarked graves in NOLA? When was the last time there was a genocide in NOLA? All bullshit.

Kyle's right. Just like any other city, you have to be educated on where and where not to go. Don't take Colin Cowherd's word for anything. The guy is only out for controversy, which equals ratings, which lines his pockets.

The guy is a bonafide douche.

Of the 32 NFL cities name 15 with better hotels, weather, and attractions than New Orleans.

That's a pretty key point he left out -- attractions. People rave about the hotels being right next to the venue (Superdome/Arena) so you can walk there AND it's in the French Quarter which never lacks for something to do at any moment of the day or night.

Airports are larely a non-issue except to a guy who travels a lot like a media member that Cowherd obviously is.. For example, if airports were such a huge issue then NOLA wouldn't be such a hot tourist spot would it?

Safety is a huge issue in New Orleans, but during all of these events how many violent crimes happened?

OKC just beat the Lakers and outside the OKC Arena 8 people were SHOT. Supposedly a group of men shooting at a group of women. I'm not saying OKC is a terrible place. I've been there and it's just fine, but it's also not a place you'd expect that to happen. I've never heard of people let alone multiple people being shot at the venue right after a huge sporting event here.

    It simply hasn't happened.

The city of New Orleans has a pretty damn good police force when it specifically comes to hosting major events. Many other things? Not so much.

Other major cities send members of their police force here regularly to observe how our department handles big events.

Las Vegas hosting the All-Star Game in the NBA had a lot of problems. New Orleans post-Katrina was earmarked for doom, gloom, and utter failure.

Instead, New Orleans hosted the game to rave reviews.

I'm moving my small business to New Orleans. and all my Covington/Mandeville customers are shocked. "You're gonna get shot." "They're gonna kill you in a robbery."

Folks, I'll be fine. I'm buying and selling food....not crack rocks !!

That's where all the murders are...in the drug trade.

Kyle got it right in his post earlier.

The hotel argument is ridiculous. NOLA is a world-class convention city and tourist destination. We have ample upper and middle-scale hotels for the Super Bowl. It has never been an issue before.

The airport argument is irrelevant. Miami has a huge international airport. My brother and father were delayed a full day trying to get out of Miami after SB 44 two years ago. Armstrong is well-versed at moving high-volume traffic in a short time. Again, never an issue before Cowherd ran his mouth.

Every major city has areas that the well-informed locals will tell you to avoid, its not a problem exclusive to New Orleans.

NOLA keeps getting major sports events, not because of anyone's PR skills, but because it has repeatedly demonstrated for decades that it can host these events efficiently, with a flair that is unique to our area, and yes, safely.

I mostly agree that the airport argument is irrelevant, but you've got to admit that MSY sucks. I'd be willing to bet nobody comes to New Orleans for the airport, but it is the first and last thing most visitors see. And it's just awful. Surly (for the most part) employees, very limited food choices, confusing baggage claim, dank, dark, dirty and depressing passenger drop off and pick up points.

With that said, the last time I flew into MSY, on Lundi Gras night, everybody on the plane was happy to get to NOLA and the flight crew even handed out beads when we were getting off the plane.

But as far as the hotels go, I think there are something like 60k rooms within a reasonable walk from the Superdome.

Another thing, unlike most other NFL cities, everything is right downtown. The Dome, fine dining, shopping and entertainment (both adult and family).

Weather? I'd be willing to bet the weather for Super Bowl XLVII is going to be MUCH better than for Super Bowl XLVIII.

They are working on it. Whole new concourse is on the way and upgraded food and such as well. However, MSY really isn't that bad. It is not typically a layover/connection as it is not a hub for any of the airlines, so people aren't typically in the airport for hours on end like at hubs. That said, you don't need as many amenities as the larger airports. As I said before, when you arrive in MSY, it is easy to get to baggage and on your way. When you are outbound, the smallness is nice, you don't have to walk for days.

Additionally, people that come to NOLA are usually in a good mood because it is such a fun city and are probably willing to overlook any shortcomings MSY might have. :)

I rarely fly, wjray, but I know you're right that MSY doesn't compare well to most major cities' airports. But as you noticed (and I was pointing out), they step up their performance for special events.
