Georgia and Arkansas almost beat LSU. Alabama got 300 rushing yards put on them by Georgia Southern. LSU beat West Virginia Big East and BCS bowl winner, Oregon PAC 12 and BCS bowl winner, and Alabama, Georgia, and Arkansas was ranked 3 when LSU beat them. Alabama played LSU and Arkansas. That's it. The BCS got it wrong, and everyone except you seems to realize that. If LSU would have played Oklahoma State they would have had a chance to beat the PAC 12, Big 12, and Big East champion all in the same season but they were denied that opportunity and forced to play a team they already beat in front of that teams own fans in their own house. It's a farce, it's bullshit and it was a complete botch job by the BCS.
If by "almost beating" you mean 41-17 and 42-10 I guess LSU wasn't that good after all. Did you complain in 2003 when LSU had to play a Georgia team they had already beaten in the SEC Championship game played only 70 miles from the Georgia campus. That's even closer than the Superdome is to Baton Rouge
Georgia won their side of the conference. Alabama didn't win shit. And now I'm going to assume you either A. Didn't watch the Arkansas or Georgia game or B. You conveniently forgot that if not for the honey badger and special teams in the 2nd half of those games LSU would have lost. LSU's offense didn't exist in the Arkansas and Georgia games. But hey you sound more like an Alabama fan every post so you may not have watched those 2 games.
For one of you guys that isn't satisfied with the winningest coach in the storied history of LSU football to call someone else a whiner is laughable at best.
I sweated out the whole first quarter of both of those games. If there had been the 4 team playoff that goes into effect this year LSU and Alabama would have still played for the title. LSU would have been the #1 seed and beaten #4 seed Stanford and #2 seed Alabama would have beaten #3 seed Oklahoma State. Nice touch. When you are losing the argument you resort to calling me a gump. LSU relied more on the D than the Lee/JJ O the whole season. What's your point? I'm not defending Alabama. I'm defending the way the BCS system worked in 2011. To think that any other team that year was remotely close to as good as either LSU or Alabama is delusional. If the Saints were to barely get into the playoffs and then end up winning the Superbowl would you bitch that they didn't deserve to be there? The year you should bitch about is 2001. LSU was pretty mediocre though the middle of the season and then caught fire. They beat #2 Tennessee to win the SEC Championship. Nebraska was beaten 62-36 by Colorado in their last regular season game and didn't even play in the Big 12 Conference Championship game but were selected to play Miami for the National title. At the end of 2001 LSU was no worse than the second best team in college football. Would they have beaten Miami? I don't know but I would have liked to find out.
That makes a lot of sense because you know if LSU loses its championship game they don't give us a mulligan to play Georgia again, even though at the point we would be the "best two teams." It was Saban himself who said, when at LSU, if you don't win your division you do not DESERVE a shot at the national championship. Then when it applied to him he changed his tune. He knew the second go round was his for the win. This happened to LSU with Ole Miss by the same score 21-0. We won in the regular season, they won the one that counted when they got the do over. The only reason Bama was in that game was because ESPN loves them some Saban. Don't get me wrong we did not prepare well and got beat. The odds were in Bama's favor, so we should have worked our ass off, but with the gauntlet we had just been through, I can understand why they relaxed. Either way I still don't know why a runner up in a conference can be crowned champ of the nation. That's like letting your best man pop your wife on the honeymoon.
In 2007 the New England Patriots went 16-0 in the regular season and beat the Giants in the last game of the season. They won two more playoff games to go into the Superbowl 18-0 and make history. The Giants barely made the playoffs and had to win three games to get to the Superbowl where they ended the Patriots bid for a perfect season. I have never heard any Patriots fans whining about having to play a team they had already beaten in the regular season
I got what you're saying, bro, but special teams is one component of a complete team. The fact special teams ignited the offense and defense is what made that team so special. I hate Bama as much as anyone, but deserve's got nothing to do with it. The BCS existed to put the best two teams on the field. There was no one better than LSU and Bama. Sucks for us as fans, especially how the last game played out.
That's just patently false. If the BCS existed to match up the 2 best teams, LSU would have played USC in 2003, Auburn would have played USC in 2004, and Ohio State wouldn't have played in 2006 or 2007, and Notre Dame wouldn't have played in 2012. There is no way to know if Oklahoma State could have beaten LSU because they didn't allow that game to happen, they gave a team that 1 win against a quality opponent, and 1 loss against the only other quality opponent they played get a mulligan when they lost on their own turf. Nick Saban himself said a non conference champion doesn't deserve to play for a national championship. If the sole purpose is to match the 2 best teams in 2007 the national championship should have been played between LSU and Georgia, a team that didn't win their conference.
I was merely commenting on that year, and that year they got the two best teams right. I would've rather Oklahomo State been there, but in my opinion, they were not the best team. Just an opinion, I'm not in on the decision making for championship games.
