That's one of the funniest things I've ever seen concerning the two... lol Saban is scared of Miles and knows he can kick his a$$.

Good points. Saban is a hollar coach. Players don't want to screw up so they won't get yelled at in front of everybody. Miles will pat you on the back and encourage you when things go wrong. One of these days, recruits are going to wise up.

Saban makes everyone around him up tight.

Miles and kids are embracing the competition, and enjoying playing the game.

I have never been much of a Miles fan and have often been very critical. I was also very critical of Saban, but still appreciate what he did at LSU, would welcome him back at LSU (depending on the circumstances), and believe he is one of the top (if not the top) coaches in the country. However, something is different with Miles this year.

Part of that is the fact that he isn't as much under the gun with the team winning so well. We aren't critiquing every minor play and wondering "what if?"...

A big part of that, in my mind is him finally having a OC that he agrees with. Crowton was just never a good marriage. Stud/Krag have really helped LSU have an identity this year, which we have lacked for years ... and that identity matches what Miles has a want for.

Secondly, i think it is hugely important that we are getting such consistent QB play. Imagine the past two years with great QB play, would we have had the UT game, Ole Miss, Arky, etc.? Probably not. A lot of that goes back to the RP issues and having to play young QB's. I'm fully confident Mett will be even better than our current two not just because he is more talented but because he hasn't been forced into a system immediately.

Thirdly, Chavis has finally gotten his system installed (arguably installed last year, too) so he has the players and an understanding of what he wants.

All that said, i do think Miles is a Top Tier coach on the same level as Saban. There are few folks I can even think of that are at his caliber ... Saban, maybe Stoops, maybe a few others. But, other than those few (and not saying i would want them) there are really very few folks I would even CONSIDER now ...

definately a change in my stance from a few years ago ... though college football has changed a lot since then!

Sounds like you're spending far too much time watching the coach. You need to relax a bit. Perhaps watching the band- that would take your mind off of all the garbage that seems to be interfering with you being able to enjoy the game.

There are a lot of neat things going on at a football game than just the X's & O's ya know. :yelwink2:

I completely agree. Miles is a far better coach than many fans (both inside and outside the program) give him credit for. He has made changes when it has been called for, and with the exception of some risky playcalling over the years, the man has maintained a solid staff that recruits consistently well. IMO, bama has recruited better under Saban, and for specific reasons that don't need to be discussed in this thread.

In fairness, there are few that match Saban's intensity ... "and that'll win you a lotta' games right there" (signed, Vince Lombardi) But that kind of intensity is hard to pull off for an entire season .... especially with youngsters.

Give Saban credit though ..... he's not only built a deep, talent-laden roster, but he has perhaps the most disciplined team I've seen him manage since he hit town in Tuscaloosa. And that, I hate to predict, will be the difference over LSU in this matchup, regardless of what vegas determines the line to be.

IMHO, behavior begets norms, norms dictate culture .... and this year's bama team has it, LSU is not there yet but may be there before the end of the season.

    caddy's SWAG = bama 22 - LSU 17

BTW - congrats on the game last week. Solid win and a well-deserved ranking. Good luck on Saturday :thumb:

It's not risky when you make them, its being audacious and that describes Les perfectly. Coaches that don't take calculated risks can't win trophies.

Like Sean Payton's onside kick, for example.

I think we're saying the same thing , Red .... audacity implies one is recklessly bold, by definition. Reckless = Risk.

Personally, if I were starting a team from scratch between the two coaches I'd pick Miles. Much easier guy to work with I imagine ... and that counts for a lot in my book.

    Luck be with you ....:thumb:
