i was wondering if anyone else has been noticing a trend the last couple of seasons with the staff. it seems like the players come out flat and it takes them entirely too long to get in a rhythm, BUT the coaching (play calling) is lackadaisical until LSU needs to score. then they start calling plays and usually get a touchdown or two, only to lose in the fourth quarter because the defense is tired out. the sense of urgency that the coaches/players show late in games needs to be there from start to finish, IMO.
I kinda thought the same thing... 3 points through 2.5 qtrs... then 14 back to back... then nothing. Apparently there's no desire until down by a few scores.
I agree with you guys, it was truly an amazing site to see.:insane: It was truly the perfect example of the way this team has played all season. I do believe Washington scored first and we had to rally somewhat to win late. Its been a long season, at least there was no hope to salvage last season! I can only hope for good hope and change in August and November!:thumb: Some of you can bash me if you want too though. Its ok, I don't take myself too seriously, really. I'm eagerly awaiting to see what this coaching staff can accomplish over the next 8 months!
This is Les Miles' coaching style, plain and simple. The attitude and urgency (or lack thereof) of the assistants are a direct reflection of the HC's coaching philosophy. Les confuses calmness with complacency, and urgency with panic. It filters down to the assistants, which filters down to the players. If Les wants to coach here beyond the 2012 season he needs to do a serious reevaluation of his approach to the job. Good coaches know how to learn from their mistakes and shortcomings, and right now Les is sorely lacking in that department.
hopefully after the last couple of seasons, the complacency that has been miles' mantra since winning the BCS in 2007 will disappear. maybe the last two seasons have brought him back down to earth. the final score was closer than the game was, but you have to give LSU defense credit for holding PSU to FGs instead of TDs. it's the dropped balls and lack of a running game that killed LSU. i think people are being overly harsh about jefferson's performance today. i thought he did OK when the coaches called good plays. i think the team gets perturbed sometimes with the play calling. it's not fun to watch LSU play, so i don't think it's fun for the players to run the plays that are being called. i hate to bring up baseball, but CPM makes it a point that his players have fun on the field. the football players look bored and hardly enthused. there is no swagger. this is not LSU football. it's not realistic to expect titles every season, but disciplined and solid football SHOULD BE PARAMOUNT. if you look at the record of LSU, 9-4 isn't terrible. but LSU isn't even exciting to watch anymore.
