I also wrote Coach Miles a handwritten letter in 2010 after the Auburn loss, and he sent me back one on LSU stationary, thanking me for the letter. I told him that I appreciated his hard work and dedication to the University, and that the idiot section of our fan base do not speak for the majority of Tiger faithful. Great comparison to Cholly Mac Stacey.
I learned to love LSU during the Charley Mac days and he will always have a special place in my LSU memories. He didnt win a NC and he lost to Bama alot but it was what kind of man he was that i remember because he was a man among men. Someone you put it all on the line for every single time because you couldnt bear the thought of letting him down. Money has taken and spoiled alot of college football but there is still no greater place to be on a fall saturday night than LSU Tiger stadium pulling for your tigers and watching the Tigers run our of the tunnel and hearing the fight song. The first time i saw it as a kid it sent chills down my spine and i will never ever forget the feeling. Because when i am lucky enough every 3 or 4 years to make the trip back from California and see my Tigers in Tiger stadium it is hallowed ground for me and i get that feeling every single time. I close my eyes and just soak it all in and i am home. Tiger fans look deep inside and see if you can be the kind of Tiger fan that can just love the Tigers and support our team and coaches and enjoy the experience.Because we are in a glory time in LSU sports. Cholly Mac would indeed be proud of ol Les.
My dad puts them both in the same category, just like Mac and Miles. He said Dietzel was all glitz and a person everyone took seriously. Mac was considered a buffoon by comparison.
The campus used to feel like home. These days, it's changed so much in the 20 years since I've graduated, that is doesn't feel the same anymore. Regardless, my 11-year-old loves visiting. Hopefully, she'll be a member of the Golden Band from Tigerland someday.
When you walk the campus.. the old part from fraternity houses through the parade ground and quadrangle to the stadium it is still there.
