The over/under on Perrilloux's dismissal at Coaches Hot Seat was June 1, and he was dismissed from the team almost 30 days before even that date. Just amazing how a kid like Perrilloux can just throw away his career and the potential for millions of dollars in the NFL, but at least Perrilloux can be comforted in the fact that he is not the only idiot in this country of ours. Even without Perrilloux on the roster, LSU has as much a talent as any team they will play in '08, and if they can get even average/non-turnover QB play, they can be right back in the hunt for the SEC West. Getting back to Les Miles and the LSU Tigers, we believe that one cannot understand Miles without understanding Bo Schembechler. Of course, one cannot understand Bo Schembechler without understanding Woody Hayes, and that takes us to a terrific show that aired on HBO last fall, The Rivalry. We here at Coaches Hot Seat have attended the Michigan-Ohio State game, some of us had the opportunity to meet both Coach Schembechler and Coach Hayes, and we thought we understood the rivalry between the Wolverines and the Buckeyes, but it took The Rivalry to really bring home the dynamics in play in that great football series. In relation to Les Miles, it was fascinating to see Bo Schembechler during his prime in the 1970s, and for anyone that was startled to see in person Les Miles come into that press conference in Atlanta last December to announce that he was not going to Michigan and that he was going to remain as the LSU coach, it was very easy to see where Miles got his coaching style and approach to life from. That would be one Bo Schembechler. When Les Miles entered the press conference in Atlanta last December to make his announcement on his future it was like a bull entering a bullfight. No, not the bullfighter, but the bull, which was so terrifically described in one of Ernest Hemingway's best books, The Sun Also Rises. Bo Schembechler was a bull in the football arena, just like his mentor Woody Hayes was, and Les Miles is cut from the very same cloth. That Les Miles is a throwback to another era is why we believe he is so undervalued by many people in the media, and why Miles' 34-6 record at LSU is so surprising to so many people. We actually have a few tapes from Michigan playing in the 1970s here at Coaches Hot Seat, and it is amazing to watch those old Wolverine games and see how similar they play to the Miles LSU teams of today. On both teams the offensive lines are feisty and very aggressive, the running backs run hard, and both teams defenses play with reckless abandon with 4, 5, 6, or even more players in on every tackle. Yes, understanding what Bo Schembechler was all about is very important in understanding the Les Miles of today, but it is also important in predicting what will happen in coming years with Miles in Baton Rouge. With that in mind, let's get to the 2008 LSU season.
Well cadillac, I'd like to believe we'll beat you guys this year but based on what has happened the last two times we traveled there, I'm not so sure that can happen. Not trying to whine but the BS leverage call followed by the BS deflected ball call leave a pretty bad taste with home cooking. I would love to just have an old fashioned Auburn-LSU slugfest that goes to the wire but is ultimately decided by the players on the field...not the zebras on the field...or the zebras in the booth. ...and yes, I'll be pulling for you guys against Alabama (unless it would cost us the West) Our game with Georgia will be as tough as any!
I think losses to Auburn and Florida are very realistic, but I will also say that if we split these games, we will play in Atlanta again. Hopefully we don't repeat the cycle of two years ago where we dropped them both. I feel more comfortable this time with Crowton. I think he will find a way to maximize our talents, even with a young QB. It will be a race to see if Auburn's offense gels faster than us. Our defense will be up to the task for sure. You know eventually, either Auburn or LSU is going to drop a home game to the other team. I hope like heck it's this year.
I cannot say I disagree with you ...... fans of all programs want fair and unbiased officiating, particularly when it comes to "amatuer" athletics. Unfortunately, the refs make frequent and sometimes obvious mistakes ...... and, trust me, it cuts both ways on a regular basis ..... I'm jes' sayin' :yelwink2: BTW, I'll be pulling for ya'll to beat Alabama too :thumb: I'll give the author of the article credit for one thing though. He nailed it with his comments about Miles. Miles is substantially undervalued by the national media and it's hard to pinpoint the root cause. CLM certainly didn't get a lot of exposure to the largest media markets during his tenure at OSU. And there were some traditionalists in the media that were hoping for the "Nobody Can Turn Down The Maize and Blue" headlines ....... The Hat jilted a couple of those we-create-the-news guys by being a man's man about the whole matter. But hey, if you can't respect a coach for exhibiting loyalty in this day and age, then what can you respect?
Caddy your comments are right on the mark. And in the sec all us fans get a lot to bitch about when it comes to the refs.
Intentions of my post: STIR THE POT AND BREAK UP THE AUBURN/LSU LOVEFEST because I'm jealous. How in the HELL can any LSU fan pull for Auburn (against ANYBODY) considering how many times y'all have been screwed by the home cooked calling and especially after the attempted Dorsey suicide knee bombing in Baton Rouge? And to any apologist that wants to say "it was a missed assignment" take a look at the Clemson game. Why is it that "missed assignments" seem to result in illegal potential career ending chop blocks? YouTube - Auburn Cheap Shot on LSU's Glenn Dorsey YouTube - Auburn The Chop Blockers I know Saban and Bama are disliked on this board but good lord!!!
lsu beats auburn--not enough time for the plainmen to gel on O lsu beats florida--coming off a bye for lsu; tigers will have a new cb by then. lsu loses to uga--georgia great on the road; stafford leads a late comeback.
