I dont believe Ed Orgeron even knows what he is going to do at this point. He has options and like I said all along, wherever the money is greatest is the place he ends up. I should know what the Tenn perspective is after this weekend. Last I heard is Tenn was getting frustrated.
my dad is not his brother, his brother his Steve. my dad and Ed are 1st cousins, but it wasn't Ed that told my dad, it was a friend of the family that told my dad, that's why i said i'm not so sure about it i'm not sure he knows either, but i do know is that he is high demand right now and teams want him, i know some college teams would want him, and even another nfl team would want him. money is not everything, although i'm sure it has something to do with it. he's not hurting money wise by no means, Ole Miss is still paying him. the guy just loves coaching, he loves what he does. i'm sure it had to kill him a little bit to not be out recruting these pass season, he lives for that......and tell Tenn. they can suck it! guess i was just waiting for the right time :hihi:
Which is exactly what I have said. He is wanted by a bunch of teams including the Saints apparently. I think money has a lot to do with it. You get used to a certain lifestyle and its hard to scale back. If someone would have told me 10 years ago what I would be making today I would have thought it was more than enough. Now its not. Orgeron and his family are no different. He may like recruiting but Im sure his family likes him being close to home and the relaxed work schedule of an NFL assistant. He just bought a house in New Orleans and his family is very happy there. LOL...well, a week ago Tenn thought he was in the bag and then New Orleans stepped up with an offer. If he doesnt come to LSU, and I dont see that happening at this point, I would rather he stay out of the SEC. It still boils down to the biggest bag of money so we'll see.
actually it's mandeville where he lives. his family does love it here, he's glad to be back home. he would still be close to home if he came to LSU. i knew he wouldn't go to Tenn., he just moved here and likes being home. there's no way he was gonna just up leave again. i think he wants his kids to finish school here in LA. well i personally would love it if he came to LSU, no need to say why. it was great when we would go up to the Ole Miss games, free tickets for one, and then after the game we would go meet up with him outside the locker room and get to hang out for a bit. it was cool. got to meet the coaches and players and all. it would be sweet to be able to do that at LSU.
The Saints defensive backs are terrible, no question, and losing both starting corners to injury (Porter and McKenzie) did not help matters, but do not kid yourself. Charles Grant and Will Smith have been absolutely atrocious this year. I frequent several Saints boards, and most diehard fans are not at all pleased with the pass rush, myself included. I don't think that's directly related to Orgeron because Smith and Grant have underperformed under a couple defensive line coaches now. The run defense has improved, but as far as pressuring the quarterback, the Saints defensive line simply does not do it. I also believe Gary Gibbs is a pretty woeful defensive coordinator who shows very little aggression. It's hard to really gauge what Orgeron has done with the Saints defensive line good or bad. I think it's probably somewhere in the middle. Jeff Charleston has as many sacks (3) as Grant and Smith did this year. That's pretty bad. And no, that's not because of the poor secondary play. Everyone knows a stout pass rush makes every secondary, no matter how horrible, look a lot better.
Ole Miss is a coaches graveyard. Nobody does well there. Those Yaw-Yaw recruits are starting and playing now and Ole Myth is getting respectable again. It doesn't happen every year. Recruiting is everything and we can't do bad by hiring people who have this skill. Speculation. The guy was a great position coach at USC who may make a fine coordinator. Former head coach Gary Crowton worked out pretty damn well.
Most Saints fans also feel that the Saints' woes are due to a lack of a running game as well, so forgive me if I buck the trend of going along with what Message Board Guy says about the Saints... Charles Grant has never been a pass rush machine. He is a bull against the run and makes enough of a push to get the ball out of the QB's hand quickly. Will Smith has been close to a lot of sacks this year. He's constantly in the backfield and gets to the QB a lot just as the ball is leaving. I know we're not playing horseshoes, but it's enough for someone to see that if the QB were holding onto the ball a little more, the sacks would be adding up. Opposing QB's have been getting rid of the ball before they can finish a five step drop, including rookie Matt Ryan. Kendrick Clancy has played at another level this year, along with Jeff Charleston and Bobby McCray. Jon Vilma has bounced back from a terrible injury, thanks in large part to the interior line doing their job so well. The line has made huge strides in the rushing defense as well. This doesn't even begin to touch on the injuries suffered on the Saints D-Line where the 1st teamers may have played together maybe four times or the passive defensive scheme that Gibbs calls. Sacks and stats don't tell the whole story. I hope Ogre stays around another couple years with the Saints. I think we'll see more improvement next year.
It is very debatable whether or not the Saints DL has improved this year or not. If they have, the question remains: is there play improved due to drafting Sedrick Ellis or is it improved because of Ogeron? Personally, I think any improvement is solely the result of the presence of Sedrick Ellis. Just my $0.02.
That theory doesn't explain their lack of a drop off when Ellis was injured. Ellis was out for the Minnesota, Oakland and Carolina games. Adrian Peterson was held to 32 yards on twenty-one carries and Justin Fargas to 35 yards on ten carries. The Panthers running game proved to be too much with two RB's (Stewart and Williams) gaining about 130 yards on 30 carries. Ellis' 28 tackles and 4 sacks is hardly reason to feel he's the reason behind the improvement, although he has been a contributing factor. I don't think there's any argument at all unless one just wants to be argumentative...
I think MLU has this right for the most part. The defensive line was simply pathetic before Orgeron arrived. They could not stop the run. If they had a legit secondary and a legit DC, the D-line would have recorded many more sacks.
