That's my biggest issue with him. Clearly he never has had much trouble getting talent and this team is no exception. Lotta young guys flashing potential and I think in a year or two they could be a great team.... BUT.... This season has been painful (even the wins) because of the horrible tackling. Dropped passes were annoying too but they seem to have improved a bit there. But the tackling.. It's like they're playing for the name on the back of the jersey rather than the one on the helmet, to borrow an old phrase. Someone is getting paid for something they're not doing; that is the bottom line. They need to figure out who it is and correct that problem because that shit won't fly around here. Personally after last year, I would have thrown the entire federal reserve at Dave Aranda and groveled at his feet until he came back. Probably wouldn't have worked, and who's to say they didn't? Anyway, better tackling and realizing when not to chase one of those little squirrely QB's (patience), would have done wonders in this game. Oh well, I honestly figured we were gonna lose anyway, but it sucks that it was that close and got my hopes up.. lol
As long as he’s been here and it took a technicality to fire the OL coach. Our OC doesn’t understand how to run the ball. Firing O means back to the drawing board and a ton of folks would prefer that. The stink will waft over Woodward if he doesn’t take care of this.
Is the $ there to cut bait in December? Simple question . If so - Urban?? 3 years before he flakes again then maybe grooms an assistant to take us to 2026?
He ain’t ready for prime time but we might have to take a reach on someone and that’s unfortunately how you can become Tennessee.
I am all in on Luke Fickell. Guy learned from his stint at Ohio State. He's built a program to compete at the highest levels. He's identified young assistants who have gone on to bigger jobs due to their success under him and yet he's had no drop-off with their departure. Luke believes in family and creating that culture with his players and it actually has worked because he's pretty genuine and self aware. He's legit. Defensive guy which I think is harder to find today than offensive guys are.. easier to find OCs than head coaches who are also OCs, they can get lost in their specialty and rarely have good defenses. There's other options but Freeze isn't SEC friendly. Kiffin would be a wild card. Obviously Urban would be top of the list but he's got a job in Jacksonville. Burrow is close with Fickell and Urban though for a reason. Both are winners. If Brady actually was into recruiting at all, I'd go after him and see, but he's a pro coach. Same with Aranda. Not sold on him as a recruiter but would love him if he could do it 150% better than he currently does. Napier is another very obvious choice, but I would go Fickell between the two. He's close though. Had local ties already so might salvage this class that would be huge.. this was a championship level class but O fucked up ever hire for 2 straight years so that's ruined.
As long as your taking suggestions... Lincoln Riley - I think he would listen to an offer Luke Fickell Mario Cristobal - Sorry GDF Matt Campbell
