The more pressure O has on him the worse he seems to handle it. He's been digging his own grave deeper and deeper. Agents have reached out to Woodward already and things aren't at a stand still behind the scenes. Gotta make sure you have your guy lined up and you want to get your guy before USC gets theirs in case there is any crossover. Right now you let O continue to lead while you do everything you can until you need to fire him or reach the settlement to bring in a new coach to save this VITAL and CHAMPIONSHIP level recruiting class that signs on early signing day in December. The time table is very different for coaching changes due to that recruiting day in December. All just my opinion though.
I think this is exactly what is happening @Brian. Woodward has done well in keeping quiet and getting who he wants, so I think they are working behind the scenes to secure the right hire for LSU.
So what if anything do we know about who USC wants? I know we all think LSU is the better job but nationally where do you think we fall? Has to be better right?
As much as you and a lot of LSU fans (myself included) want Orgeron gone, a mid season firing is not going to happen. Just on the surface, an 8-7 record 1-1/2 yrs removed from a NC is not bad enough by itself to fire him. But we all see the trend line and know where it’s going. We just have to let it play out. If it goes as we expect, then the lack of on field production plus the off the field issues will seal his fate.
In 2016 when we hired Orgeron, if you thought we would win a Championship, you were right. If you thought Orgeron would run our program into the ground, you were right. It's not often that everyone was right, but everyone was right. 2019 was as glorious as this is sad. I haven't seen an offensive line this bad since the 90s.
Respectfully disagree on Chizik. They are very similar. Chizik had a good season before the 2010 National Title (Outback Bowl), then won the title when Newton fell into his lap. Then in 2011, they went 8-5, then the next year they went 0-8 in the SEC. Orgeron hasn't gone 0-8, but this is still two years after the title and looking at the remaining SEC schedule, I'm not saying he's gonna lose them all, but it's hard for me to get him to 4-4 in the SEC. Maybe he will. So maybe it won't be as drastic a dropoff as Chizik, but there are similarities, mostly the fact that a QB fell in their lap that turned out to be way better than anybody thought they could be.
