Wow, I have not really been paying attention to Saban's happiness much. That's interesting. I am with you, I don't know that I would want him back. Having said that, if CLM left for his alma mater, and Saban wanted to come back, it is unlikely at 50+ years of age and already having quenched his NFL desires that he would leave again. People do learn from their mistakes, I believe, if the consequences have been great enough.
Unless news reports lie (can't imagine that happening), it's no secret Saban and his wife hate it in Tuscaloosa. She has been reported to say numerous times how much she misses it in Baton Rouge, and great the people and area was. And he has been reported to say, (like the video shows) that he misses LSU and the biggest mistake he ever made was leaving LSU. So I think his tenure will be up in Tuscaloosa sooner then later, but I don't want him back in P&G.
If CLM left for Michigan, which I don't think he will for numerous reasons, I would be happy with Saban coming back, which I don't think he would do for numerous reasons.
I didn't want to say this, but this is the exact scenario I was hinting to when I said we better watch what we wish for. I have been talking to a friend about this very possible outcome. They asked me not to rain on our dreams of Crystal Balls that might happen under this new coaching staff, so I didn't. Reality is, just what Huge package of promises do we think were promised to Ed O? My guess is the capt of the ship should there be a vacancy. With RR being the 1st coach in 41 yrs to guide Mich to a non bowl season, my guess is if he doesn't win the Big 10 within the next 2 seasons that vacancy will become a reality.
In a few years, if Michigan's program is in such poor shape that they have to fire RR, and LSU does great over the next few years, why would Les go to Michigan? If we get Chavis and Ed O, I'd say there is a pretty good chance LSU will be great over the next few years. All-in-all, I think if we get Chavis and Ed O, that would pretty bad news to you folks that still wish we had Saban.
If we bring in Chavis and O... and they bring in a few stud position guys... we look to keep filling our classes with talent like we have coming in this class. This could mean another 2-3 or more possible NC games in the immediate next few years... Miles or any of the other coaches would be an idiot to leave, especially for programs in the toilet.
Getting back to Coach O, I'm happy about it since he is reputed to be a good d-line coach, been a good DC at USC, and excellent recruiter, which always is a good thing to have. The only question mark is with a lot of strong personalities being assembled, Miles, Crowton, Orgeron, and Chavis, can they work together like a good team. We've seen Crowton work well with the baseball program, so I know he is a team player. I saw some Bama thread about how they were happy to see LSU! get Chavis, since they had lit him up the last 2 years. They figure they can light him up over here too (just stirring the pot, what the hell!!!). This is a positive for Miles, he brings in strong good people, and he will manage to the disagreements and his job it get them to all work well together. Miles is not the best offensive coach, nor the best defensive coach. But if he can hire a great OC and DC, and great assistants, he can HEAD up a GREAT STAFF. He did great with Fisher and Pelini, then better with Crowton and Pelini. He made a mistake with the co DC's and he has corrected it at the end of one season. With coaching turnover, he will have lots of decisions to make, and occasionally he will make a mistake. Here's to next year, may the pieces fall together better! G E A U X LES!
