As a Memphis Alum, but someone who was raised in Baton Rouge as an LSU fan, its been really interesting to watch this transition. I have wanted Coach Porter to come to Memphis, because he is the only guy who can save the program. I do love LSU more, but I went to Coach Porter's PC and got to talk to him a bit (we even joked about the Arkansas game). This is not getting reported but he has been so complimentary of Miles and LSU. Particuarly about how Miles has effected him as a person and coach. He talked about Miles' passion for football, his family and for God. A radio host asked him what Miles said when this opp. came up...he said Miles' first words were "How can I help?". I love that each of these guys are leading these programs, and am hoping for nothing but the best for each. Here is a great link about Porter and LSU recruits...the title is misleading... http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/recruiting/football/news/story?id=4701077
Q: What's one of the most important things you have learned coaching under Les Miles? His passion for football. You're talking about a family man, a football coach, and a man of God. And, he didn't have any hobbies, but he had a passion for football. That's what I've taken from Les. He's a very sincere guy, and he's very passionate about football.
As a fellow Memphis Alum I am so excited about Coach Porter coming here. It will bridge my two tiger families, haha. I just really hope he doesn't try to take any recruits with him. I don't believe he would be able to get them to leave LSU for Memphis anyway, but alot of people on talk radio here in Memphis have been saying he will try. Geaux Tigers and Go Tigers Go:tigereye:
