Oooohh! That's bad news. Good for him, I am sure, but bad for LSU. I am sure CLM will figure out an admirable replacement.

THe NFL was the only thing I was worried about with him. He would have turned down almost every college gig.

    Good for him though.

Sad to see him go, but good luck. Now, finding a worthy replacement might be difficult, but with our DB's LSU seems to be a great place to coach that position.

my knee jerk reaction was man this sucks for LSU, but then I thought about it, and we weren't hurting at DB before Cooper came here in 2009. it's not like we were doing cartwheels when we hired him away from Spurrier at South Carolina, saying "oh hell yes, we're finally going to have great DB play now!". It's similar to how we go from one D-line coach to the next and still have great D-linemen. Look at South Carolina: they had one of the best secondaries in the nation last season, and Cooper hasn't been there since 2008 (and I went to their boards when we hired Cooper away from them and there was a lot of "this is horrible news" reactions)

also, it's not like a talent like Cooper was going to stay a college DB coach forever...and that's what he's done since 2004 so its surprising he hasn't taken a promotion earlier. I wish the Saints would have gotten him and that he'd have gone anywhere but a division rival, but at least he's not coaching against LSU.

Obviously this isn't the best timing to have to find a new assistant, but luckily this is LSU and there will be no shortage of interested candidates. I like the idea of Corey Raymond mentioned above. Whatever happens will have to happen quickly.

A couple other names Carlton Buckles (played at LSU in the early 90's, at Baylor now), Terry Joseph(New Orleans guy, was a GA under Miles at LSU)), another former LSU player Greg Jackson and Larry Slade (Hes up at Louisville with Strong, has coached with Chief and Krags).

Les may try and get a guy with La. ties, but Slades a good one and knows Chiefs system.

Thanks to Coop, the guy did a great job finding talent and with player development.
