Since we are talking about defense against the spread offense, do you think Saban's scheme could have done any better?

Which is fine position to have but is a pretty dumb argument to make on a place meant to discuss such matters, such as a sports message board.

CLM has a very tight staff and team. I expect this to work just like using 2 QB's this season. It's also a good example for the players to experience.
If it bombs then I guess 2 heads will roll instead on one.

Did you see this defense mapped out? From the sounds of it, it seems like your line is spread out too far, leaving your linebackers left to cover any runs up the gut. But your outside backers also have to be able to cover the outside of the line as well as follow any TE or RB that goes into a route. Which if executed right, leaves one DE way out of the play, and your RB going one-on-one with a Safety well beyond the LOS.

Looks like Co DCs is going to be the answer unless Miles is waiting to interview some others.

BTW, Pellini recommended Mallory to take over the DC duties.

I suspect that unblocked safety might be closer to the line and come up very quickly on a handoff. It could be an easy three yards, though. But you don't line up in the spread to get three-yard plays. If they go to the spread on third and long and run this play, an easy three doesn't help them.
