The gumps are talking about it. They think it might be a reality. Their thinking is if the score is the 9 to 6 type from the first game it might happen. It's mostly the media terds like espn and cbs talking about this nonsense, and the gumps are eating it up. They are so afraid that their precious football team is going to fall to LSU again. Fact is, it will. Our "damn strong football team" is going to be victorious on Jan 9th. I feel like this football team the same way I felt about the 09 Saints. From preseason on I felt they were going to win it all. I just wish I'd had the balls and the money to bet on them. The line was 18 to 1. These Tigers are the same caliber team. They find a way to win. I was nervous against Oregon. Pfft....not even a pothole in the road. "West-by-god", they got some passing yards, but in the end....it's the points on the board that count (remember that gumps). MSU, gave us a good one, or the Tigers didn't execute as well, but a win is a win. The rest of them, chewed them up and spit them out. Even Arkansas with their "well, we've improved since the gumps kicked our a$$. Poor Georgia, spotted them 14 points, then showed them what it's like in the SEC west. Ah yes, it's gonna be mighty sweet come the 9th. Ain't gonna be no "co-champ".
No such thing as a co championship. The winner of the BCSNC is the champion....period. USC was no co champion....them's the rules.
This is bad gris-gris talking about co-champs. Let's just kick that azz on the 9th and remove all doubt once and for all. Happy 2012, everyone! LSU!:LSU231:
I assume you're talking about the thread on Tidefans. Mostly, they're bashing Brando, his hair, and whining about "all the experts" picking LSU and how it seems to them everybody thinks LSU will win. Then of course they're claiming championship #958 already, because of course the stars are all aligned for them, and since people on TV are picking LSU, obviously LSU players and coaches are overconfident. Oh, and of course had they played typical Alabama ball Nov 5, they would've won by two touchdowns. I kid you not...everything I mentioned is in that thread...no lie. I would link it, but since LSU fans aren't allowed to post there until they "restore order", there's no sense in leading y'all down that path. Funny though...I don't know the exact numbers, but by my count so far, I think Brando picking LSU brings the percentage of analysts picking LSU up to 1%. I know Vegas doesn't show LSU winning this game. I guess that means the Alabama coaches and players are overconfident, so I don't see any way we don't win by 2 TDs. After all, if LSU had played LSU ball Nov 5, we would've won in a blowout. There, now I feel better.
Mostly they are worried that LSU could lose the game and still be #1 in the AP poll, stealing Bama's thunder. And, that could happen, I suppose. But if Bama loses, there is no way that they are going to be anybody's #1 with two losses. Or #2 for that matter. The point is really moot. There is no way that LSU is going to claim a National Championship just for finishing #1 in some poll. Not where there was a national championship game to decide a champion. Not after USC's shameless self-promotion in 2003.
this. one cannot stop what the polls do, but to latch onto something like that would be hypocritical. it's also what steve said. sorry, steve, that whole no multi-quote thing got your post left out.
and this. again, eff no multi-quote. yes, fish. i believe in gris-gris, mojo, and karma. i am one of the "weak minded" superstitious.
The funny thing about this is that while Bama fans come so completely unglued at the idea that LSU would hold on to the AP #1 in any situation, their claim to the 1973 National Title is the exact same situation. In 1973, Alabama was #1 in both the AP & UPI poll going into the Sugar Bowl with unanamous #2 Notre Dame. Notre Dame won the game 24-23. The AP voted Notre Dame #1, as anyone would expect, but the UPI didn't have a post-bowl poll, so Alabama remained #1 and the school claims this as one of Bear Bryant's six national titles. Flash forward to this year. LSU is #1 in all polls. If (which I seriously doubt) Alabama wins, the Harris & USAToday polls are contactually obligated to name Alabama the winner of the National Title, but the AP, which has no contract with the BCS (unlike 2003, when they were part of it but were not contractually required to name the winner the champion) can still vote for whomever they choose. If it is a close game, members of the AP can award the title to LSU based on "the totality of the season" criteria we heard so much of when the Gumps were trying to argue their way into the game. So while the AP would have a post-bowl poll (unlike the UPI in '73), they are not obligated to give overwhelming weight to this one game over the earlier LSU win or the other impressive wins over BCS teams that LSU already has in the books In fact, in this case, LSU would have a better argument than Bama uses for '73, because we actually beat them in the regular season, where they didn't play ND in the regular season and therefore could not have beaten them. Reasonable Bama fans would have to decide whether they would graciously share the title, or give up the claim to the '73 crown. But since I haven't met a reasonable Bama fan when talking about claiming national titles, I don't expect any of them to come to terms with this hypocracy. No matter, LSU will win and this discussion will be moot. And even if we lose, I would not be in favor of claiming the AP title in any official way. Coach Miles ought to make this point clear to the team, so that they will have a real want to win this one. GEAUX TIGERS
On the Saints game just now, FOX just promo'ed the Cotton Bowl (Arkansas vs Kansas St.) as "the only matchup between the Big 12 and the SEC." A swipe at the BCS, perhaps?
