Depends on the slide piece and change up, but yeah if you throw left handed you shouldn't have trouble finding employment somewhere. (See Reyes, Jo Jo.) Though he was only really touching 87-89 at LSU, he still could be a useful LOOGY (lefty-only guy) coming out of a pen if he can continue to improve his slider and change up combo. It would suck though to see a guy who once had so much speed and strength sitting in a bullpen all game long though. Really hoping he can get back to football but it's nice that he has such an attractive fallback.
Chad Jones' miraculous recovery on track to becoming even better | NOLA.com Saw this article today. What an inspiration. Hoping to see Chad in the NFL real soon.
that would be my suggestion would make much more money than he could ever dream of in football and have a career twice as long
Chad would likely end up as a lefty specialist out of the bullpen. Non-closing relief pitchers don't make all that much money in the first place, and it takes MLB players six years of service time (thus, six years of earning league minimum plus whatever incremental raises you may get through arbitration) before they hit free agency. Though he would be able to play for a lot longer and could probably end up earning more cumulatively, I don't think he'd ever be in position to sign a huge baseball contract. But I doubt money is too high on his list of priorities at this point. It's great enough that he is back on his feet. If he ever plays any sport competitively again it will be a great triumph.
The MLB minimum salary for 2011 is $414,000. Six years of that and Chad could retire a multi-millionaire. Versus practically no chance of playing running back in the NFL.
