My takeaway from Nate Silver's graph's above is that both white dems and white repubs are both pretty racist toward blacks & saying one faction is more racist than the other (based on his graphs) is splitting hairs.
Lefty, righty, middle of the fence, white, black, brown, yellow. Doesn't matter, everyone's racist. Degree of depth is different but it exists in everyone's hearts.
Interesting survey. The general trend is down for both affiliations. That should say something. Less of grandpa's way of thinking? More instant access to differing point of views? Less toleration of discriminatory actions? Most importantly to me is the fact that despite the trend, it is such a political issue. Fuel anger and get votes.
I think that it is a political issue because many hot button economic issues at the macro level are blamed on certain socioeconomic (and ultimately racial) issues (such as welfare) and that is how anger is fueled/stoked and votes are gained/lost and prejudices are born/taught. Really corporate welfare is a much bigger issue that is a much larger cost to the country, but I digress..... The trend downward is very promising....but there is still a very long way to go.
I can't even imagine where this thread would go and how long it would be if Martin were still around.
Oh, you know he's schooling somebody somewhere about it....no doubt in my mind. He probably hasn't slept sine this weekend.
Come to think of it, I've never seen the two of them at the same time. I have always believed that martin was really Lex Luthor
